This article analytically describes the contributions of Keynesian theory in the post-World War I context, by means of a synoptic reading of the bibliographical sources indicated, the Keynesian theory within its own historical and philosophical context. The discussion covers the main concepts of his theory. The aim is, through the excerpts highlighted in the article, to briefly contextualize the origins of the ideas of John Maynard Keynes' economic thought.
Dynamic topic models have been proposed as a tool for historical analysis, but traditional approaches have had limited usefulness, being difficult to configure, interpret, and evaluate. In this work, we experiment with a recent approach for dynamic topic modeling using BERT embeddings. We compare topic models built using traditional statistical models (LDA and NMF) and the BERT-based model, modeling topics over the entire surviving corpus of Roman literature. We find that while quantitative metrics prefer statistical models, qualitative evaluation finds better insights from the neural model. Furthermore, the neural topic model is less sensitive to hyperparameter configuration and thus may make dynamic topic modeling more viable for historical researchers.
This study aims to share a teaching experience teaching sound design for audiovisual productions and compares different projects tackled by students. It is not intended to be a comparative analysis of different types of teaching but rather an analysis of different problems observed in different profiles of students of the subject who study it in different grades. The world of audio can be very interesting for a large part of the students, both those with creative and technical inclinations. Musical creation and production, synchronization with images, dubbing, etc. They are disciplines that are generally interesting but can have a very high barrier to entry due to their great technical complexity. Sometimes it can take weeks or even months for the uninitiated to begin to use audio editing programs with the necessary ease, which are not always particularly intuitive for students. Learning through the use of PBL methodologies generates, in our experience, results much superior to those that can be observed through the use of other teaching methods such as master classes. This paper determines if a callback can be called by an event-driven framework in an unexpected state.Event-driven programming frameworks are pervasive for creating user-interactive apps on just about every modern platform.Control flow between callbacks is determined by the framework and largely opaque to the programmer.This opacity of the callback control flow not only causes difficulty for the programmer but is also difficult for those developing static analysis.Previous static analysis techniques address this opacity either by assuming an arbitrary framework implementation or attempting to eagerly specify all possible callback control flow, but this is either too coarse or too burdensome and tricky to get right.Instead, we present a middle way where the callback control flow can be gradually refined in a targeted manner to prove assertions of interest.The key insight to get this middle way is by reasoning about the history of method invocations at the boundary between app and framework code - enabling a decoupling of the specification of callback control flow from the analysis of app code.We call the sequence of such boundary-method invocations message histories and develop mess

This review presents a brief discussion of the theory of Cold Dark Matter of structure formation in the universe, describing the main processes determining the power spectrum, the non-linear gravitational collapse, the formation of galaxies and the evolution of the intergalactic medium. Recent advances in the observations of high redshift galaxies, and their interpretation in the context of this theory, are then summarized. Astrobiology or exobiology is a relatively new area of science that investigates the possibilities of finding life in other places in the universe. This not only includes the exploration of planets near or distant to Earth, but also the exploration of our own planet in the study of the origin and evolution of life. Given the complexity of the questions this field tries to answer, astrobiology nourishes from various areas of science, such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, geology, among others, the reason why is considered an interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary area. Some of these questions have also arisen from these areas and have converged in what is now astrobiology. Even many of these questions have also been asked in ancient times, although without the scientific and technical framework that we have today. This is the case of civilizations such as those of ancient Greece, among others, which have raised questions directly related to the possibilities of finding life on other worlds. We analyze in some detail the years leading up to Albert Einstein's visit to Argentina, from the moment he rose to fame after the publication of the results of the 1919 solar eclipse, until his arrival at the port of Buenos Aires in March 1925. We will see that this major event in the country's cultural life did not arise from a vacuum but was the product of diverse interests and unique international and local circumstances. The social and political situation surrounding the eminent scientist and the impetus provided by individuals and institutions in Buenos Aires played a decisive role, ultimately converging in the "successful" reception of this extraordinary figure in a country on the scientific periphery of the first quarter of the 20th century. We also review the written references and knowledge circulating in the local milieu on topics related to the theory of relativity in the years prior to his arrival in the country.
The title of this essay, Induced perversity, La perversidad inducida (in Spanish), refers to the side effects of sharing information on social media when it turns out to be false; or when judgments are made about people, events, companies, or facts that can produce effects often leading to consequences that were not initially foreseen. In digital environments, on the internet of linked data, harrassment politics and the cancellation culture are not isolated phenomena; they should be related to the evolution of the web, the emergence of the platform-driven economy, and the change of users' behaviour. Risks are not only a product of technology or the emergence of artificial intelligence. Ethical problems arise in a hybrid society, where the adaptation of human behavior to human-machine interaction (HMI), and the ethical, social, and legal ways of regulating them have yet to be learned. This work describes the rescue and enhancement of several thousand spectrophotometric plates from the La Plata Observatory. These plates and their attached handwritten documents, date from the beginning of the 20th century and contain information on observations made at different observatories around the world. Due to their fragility and the inevitable deterioration produced by the passage of time, they are being cleaned up, recovered and digitized. The information contained in the plates has a high scientific value and, based on a comparison of an old spectrum with a current one, part of the history of the star can be reconstructed. Through the ReTrOH project, we seek to translate the document into an appropriate format, preserve and disseminate that knowledge, and also recover the scientific project and the historical and personal context of the observers. The digitized spectra are available in the virtual repository (SEDICI) of the UNLP.
In this paper we continue our study of the scientific research carried out at the Institute of Physics of the National University of La Plata during the first half of the 20th century, and of the important role played by the physicist Ramon G. Loyarte. Based on his studies, alone or in collaboration with members of the Institute, towards the end of the 1920s Loyarte proposed the possible existence of a new quantum of rotational energy in the mercury atom. This idea raised criticism and generated a fierce scientific controversy that reached the national and international academic media. We analyse this controversy by studying the comments that appeared in international review journals. We also study Loyarte's activities in politics and science policy in Argentina in the 1930s and 1940s, where he was responsible for interesting political and scientific initiatives.
The paper discusses Peano's argument for preserving familiar notations. The argument reinforces the principle of permanence, articulated in the early 19th century by Peacock, then adjusted by Hankel and adopted by many others. Typically regarded as a principle of theoretical rationality, permanence was understood by Peano, following Mach, and against Schubert, as a principle of practical rationality. The paper considers how permanence, thus understood, was used in justifying Burali-Forti and Marcolongo's notation for vectorial calculus, and in rejecting Frege's logical notation, and closes by considering Hahn's revival of Peano's argument against Pringsheim' reading of permanence as a logically necessary principle.
In the first decade of the 20th century, the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, founded in 1905, created a modern and well-equipped Physics Institute. In this paper we study the impact that this initiative had on the modernisation of physics teaching at secondary and university level in Argentina. We focus on two of the most representative graduates of the Institute in those years, Ramon G. Loyarte and Enrique Loedel Palumbo, and analyse their most important pedagogical works and the public reception they received. These works are a sample of the contribution of the Institute of Physics to the raising of the level of national education in the field of physical sciences in the first half of the 20th century.
José Díaz Bejarano (1933-2019) was born in Puebla de la Calzada (Badajoz, Spain). He studied Chemistry in the University of Seville and Physics in the University of Madrid. Later, he developed a successful research career in several international centers including the University of Hamburg (Germany), CERN (Geneva, Switzerland) or Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA). He returned to Spain to the University of Extremadura, where he did a successful teaching and research work in the Department of Physics (Faculty of Sciences at Badajoz). In this note, a bibliography is provided that contains his publications as well as some news from his life.
Se repasa brevemente la historia y las finanzas islandesas de manera diacrónica. Se presenta a Islandia como bastión del estallido de la crisis financiera internacional que comienza a gestarse a principios del siglo XXI y cuyo origen se hace evidente en la fecha simbólica del año 2008. Se analizan las razones fundamentales de esta crisis, centrandonos en las particularidades de la estructura económica islandesa. Se consideran las diferencias y parecidos de esta situación en relación a algunos otros países en similares circunstancias. Se estudia el caso del banco Icesave. Two books, the "De Architectura" by Vitruvius and the "Naturalis Historia" by Pliny the Elder, give us a portrait of the Materials Science, that is, the knowledge of materials, in Rome at the beginning of the Empire. Here, I am reporting some very attractive contents that we can find in these books. The reader will see the discussion proposed in fours case studies: concretes, coatings, amorphous materials and colloidal crystals, to describe them in modern words.

The identity of the famous place of La Mancha appearing at the Quijote is an unknown with a history almost as long as that of the famous book by Miguel de Cervantes. This work analyzes data obtained from a Geographic Information System and compares the results with those of the previous works. Three different variables with two possible values each are considered: time or space data, 3 or 4 reference points, and the commonly used distances to the place of La Mancha or a set of recently proposed ones. The village in the Campo de Montiel which is closest to be the place of La Mancha happens to be Carrizosa or Villanueva de los Infantes, depending on the configuration, with the latter being the solution for the configuration in which the relative errors are the smallest and the second candidate village is furthest from the first. ----- La identidad del famoso lugar de la Mancha que aparece en El Quijote es una incógnita con una historia casi tan larga como la publicación de la famosa obra de Miguel de Cervantes. We examine the preparation and context of the paper "The Crisis in Contemporary Mathematics" by Errett Bishop, published 1975 in Historia Mathematica. Bishop tried to moderate the differences between Hilbert and Brouwer with respect to the interpretation of logical connectives and quantifiers. He also commented on Robinson's Non-standard Analysis, fearing that it might lead to what he referred to as 'a debasement of meaning.' The 'debasement' comment can already be found in a draft version of Bishop's lecture, but not in the audio file of the actual lecture of 1974. We elucidate the context of the 'debasement' comment and its relation to Bishop's position vis-a-vis the Law of Excluded Middle.
