Translating natural-language hardware requirements into correct printed circuit board (PCB) schematics remains difficult in embedded, IoT, and wearable development. Designers must choose compatible components, interpret datasheets, add support circuitry, and expose correct interfaces before layout and prototyping can begin, while many such circuits cannot be validated through straightforward simulation. We present pcbGPT, a grounded system for generating editable KiCad schematics from natural-language specifications. pcbGPT represents circuits in a Python DSL and combines tool-augmented synthesis with component-library search, datasheet-grounded design knowledge, execution-based checking, structural and semantic validation, and an interactive web workflow that supports iterative refinement and synchronization with KiCad projects. We evaluate the system on 20 embedded schematic-generation tasks with reference implementations, required components, and interface constraints that enable automatic comparison. Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated capabilities in electronic design automation (EDA) for integrated circuits. However, their applications in printed circuit board (PCB) design and analysis tasks remain underexplored. In part, this is due to a (1) a lack of text-based PCB datasets to evaluate LLMs and (2) a lack of methodologies for prompting LLMs with different types of PCB design files. To address this gap, our paper proposes PCB-QA: a manually created questionnaire dataset amounting to 480 question-answer pairs for PCBs, derived from 8 different open-source hardware projects of varying complexities. We examine multiple aspects of PCB designs and cover questions about component connections, datasheet examination, and simulation data obtainable via SPICE. Using our dataset as a benchmark, we prompt LLMs with different representations (and combinations) of PCB design files and record observations. This allows us to measure, for the first time, if LLMs can understand schematics and netlists in their "native forms" (i.e. graphical PDFs, KiCAD-format design files) or if textual formats are preferred. This paper introduces PHOTON (PHysical Optical Tracking of Notes), a non-invasive optical sensing system for measuring key-lever motion in historical keyboard instruments. PHOTON tracks the vertical displacement of the key lever itself, capturing motion shaped by both performer input and the instrument's mechanically imposed, time-varying load. Reflective optical sensors mounted beneath the distal end of each lever provide continuous displacement, timing, and articulation data without interfering with the action. Unlike existing optical systems designed for modern pianos, PHOTON accommodates the diverse geometries, limited clearances, and non-standard layouts of harpsichords, clavichords, and early fortepianos. Its modular, low-profile architecture enables high-resolution, low-latency sensing across multiple manuals and variable key counts. Beyond performance capture, PHOTON provides real-time MIDI output and supports empirical study of expressive gesture, human-instrument interaction, and the construction of instrument-specific MIDI corpora using real historical mechanisms. Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools such as KiCad offer powerful functionalities but remain difficult to use, particularly for beginners, due to their steep learning curves and fragmented documentation. To address this challenge, we present SmartonAI, an AI-assisted interaction system that integrates large language models into the EDA workflow, enabling natural language communication, intelligent task decomposition, and contextual plugin execution. SmartonAI consists of two main components: a Chat Plugin that breaks down user instructions into subtasks and retrieves tailored documentation, and a OneCommandLine Plugin that recommends and executes relevant plugins based on user intent. The system supports multilingual interaction and adapts to user feedback through incremental learning. Preliminary results suggest that SmartonAI significantly reduces onboarding time and enhances productivity, representing a promising step toward generalizable AI-assisted interaction paradigms for complex software systems.
