Kongobatha is one of the most commonly encountered of all Australian mantis genera, and yet despite this, very little is known about the taxonomy or biology of the genus. Described to include a single Australian species, K. diademata, the only subsequent work on the genus has been the description of a second species from New Guinea, K. papua. We here describe three additional species, K. spinosistyla Connors sp. nov., K. serpens Connors sp. nov., and K. rufilinea Connors sp. nov., and redescribe K. diademata and K. papua in detail, the latter of which is recorded from Australia for the first time. We also describe for the first time the unusual, heavily spinose styli of male Kongobatha. These are apparently unique among Mantodea as a whole, but their function remains unknown.

Given the prevalence of disordered eating and the persistence of traditional gender roles in China, this study examined the relationship between ambivalent sexism (including both benevolent and hostile forms) and disordered eating in Chinese women. Hostile sexism refers to overtly negative and antagonistic attitudes toward women, while benevolent sexism involves subjectively positive but patronizing beliefs. The research examined whether women's endorsement of these sexist beliefs is associated with self-objectification and increased appearance comparisons on social networking sites (SNSs), which link to disordered eating. Furthermore, the research explored the moderating role of partner intimacy in romantic relationships. A sample of 761 Chinese college women completed the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory, subscales of the Eating Disorder Inventory, the Self-Objectification Questionnaire, and the Social Network Site Appearance Comparison Scale. Among these participants, 253 women in romantic relationships provided additional self-reports on partner intimacy. Data were analyzed using Hayes' Process Macro Model 6 to test the serial mediation effects (via self-objectification and appearance comparison on SNSs) and Model 85 to test the moderated serial mediation model, where partner intimacy was specified as a moderator. The results revealed that both benevolent sexism (b = 0.252, 95% CI [0.14, 0.36]) and hostile sexism (b = 0.162, 95% CI [0.05, 0.27]) were positively associated with disordered eating. These associations were mediated by self-objectification and sequentially through self-objectification and appearance comparison on SNSs. Notably, partner intimacy moderated the path from benevolent sexism to self-objectification (b = 0.095, 95% CI [0.01, 0.18]) and the effects from benevolent sexism to appearance comparison on SNSs (b = - 0.023, 95% CI [-0.04, -0.00]). These findings suggest that women's endorsement of ambivalent sexism is associated with disordered eating through self-objectification and appearance-related social comparison, and that romantic relationships are a critical context in which benevolent sexism is linked to women's psychological processes. By integrating ambivalent sexism with objectification theory, this study advances understanding of how gendered beliefs intersect with relationship contexts in relation to women's disordered eating in contemporary China. This study examined connections between sexist attitudes and women’s eating behaviors by focusing on two types of sexism: benevolent sexism, which may appear positive but reflects patronizing views, and hostile sexism, which involves openly negative views. The research considered whether these attitudes were related to women’s tendency to view themselves as objects and to compare their appearance with others on social media. It also looked at whether closeness in romantic relationships was linked to these patterns. A total of 761 Chinese college women took part in the study, including 253 women who were in relationships. Results indicated that both benevolent and hostile sexism showed positive associations with disordered eating. These associations were also observed in relation to self-objectification and appearance comparisons on social media. Among women who reported greater closeness with their partners, benevolent sexism was more strongly associated with self-objectification. In contrast, among women who reported lower closeness with their partners, benevolent sexism was more strongly associated with appearance comparisons. These findings point to the relevance of romantic relationships in understanding how sexist attitudes are associated with women’s body image and eating behaviors.
The pre-trained text-image discriminative models, such as CLIP, has been explored for open-vocabulary semantic segmentation with unsatisfactory results due to the loss of crucial localization information and awareness of object shapes. Recently, there has been a growing interest in expanding the application of generative models from generation tasks to semantic segmentation. These approaches utilize generative models either for generating annotated data or extracting features to facilitate semantic segmentation. This typically involves generating a considerable amount of synthetic data or requiring additional mask annotations. To this end, we uncover the potential of generative text-to-image diffusion models (e.g., Stable Diffusion) as highly efficient open-vocabulary semantic segmenters, and introduce a novel training-free approach named DiffSegmenter. The insight is that to generate realistic objects that are semantically faithful to the input text, both the complete object shapes and the corresponding semantics are implicitly learned by diffusion models. We discover that the object shapes are characterized by the self-attention maps while the semantics are indicated through the cross-attention maps produced by the denoising U-Net, forming the basis of our segmentation results. Additionally, we carefully design effective textual prompts and a category filtering mechanism to further enhance the segmentation results. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that the proposed DiffSegmenter achieves impressive results for open-vocabulary semantic segmentation.

Qualitative evidence suggests that caregivers may express a wish for death of persons with severe dementia (PwSD). No study has assessed the extent to which it happens, stability of this wish over time and the factors associated with it. We examined caregivers' wish for death of PwSDs overtime and the factors associated with this wish. 215 caregivers of community dwelling PwSDs were surveyed every 4 months for 2 years. Using the mixed-effects multinomial regression model, we assessed the PwSD and caregiver factors associated with caregivers' wish for PwSDs' death. At baseline, 27% caregivers expressed a wish for PwSDs' life to end sooner. Overall, 43% of the caregivers expressed a wish for PwSDs' death at least once during the study period and 11% expressed it consistently. Caregivers' perception of PwSDs' lower quality of life (RRR: 1.05, 95% CI: 1.00, 1.10), higher functional dependency (RRR: 1.1, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.21), eating difficulty (RRR: 2.25, 95% CI: 1.26, 4.04) and suffering (RRR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.05, 3.52) were associated with this wish. Caregivers who were emotionally close to PwSDs were less likely (RRR: 0.25, 95% CI: 0.11, 0.55) while those who understood that dementia is a terminal illness were more likely (RRR: 2.01, 95% CI: 1.03, 3.92) to express this wish. Caregivers' wish for PwSDs' death changed over time and was primarily driven by their perception of PwSDs' poor well-being and awareness of their illness being terminal, indicating a need for increased support in this challenging caregiving context.

During World War II, the Japanese Kwantung Army's Unit 731 secretly conducted large-scale, inhumane, and unethical human experimentation in China, culminating in one of the most heinous medical atrocities, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in the Asia-Pacific theatre of the war. Despite the gravity of the subject matter and its historical significance, research on Unit 731 has, for a long time, been rather limited, but has gradually increased in recent decades. In this article, we identify several important characteristics and trends in research activities related to Unit 731, with a view to providing a general overview of the existing scholarship and to providing recommendations for future research.From the 1950s to the 1970s, academic research started to accumulate. The second stage was one of rapid development from the 1980s to the 1990s. During this period, research efforts in Japan had a far-reaching influence and began to spread to China, Europe, and the U.S. Scholars from scientific, medical, and educational communities began participating in Unit 731 research successively. The third stage of multi-dimensional development began at the onset of the twenty-first century. Research expanded into comparative inquiries of Japanese medical atrocities and their Nazi counterpart; at the same time, research on many topics in diverse disciplines was also deepened and intensified. In addition to focusing on pragmatic issues such as reflections and actions of modern society and reconciliation, researchers have also been concerned with historical writing and collective memory.
Teaching organic chemistry is also important for pharmacists to understand the synthesis and mechanism of action of organic drug molecules. Unfortunately, organic chemistry is considered one of the most difficult subjects. This impression affects students' motivation. To provide students with a learning aid and hopefully boost their motivation, this pilot study tested the integration of 28 elevenies-a special form of short poem-during a semester in an organic chemistry lecture for pharmacists. An anonymous and voluntary questionnaire was conducted at the end of the lecture sessions to assess perceptions of the use of elevenies as a teaching tool. Overall, the student feedback on the implementation of elevenies was positive. In general, students felt (with nearly 94% agreement) that a wider variety of learning methods, such as elevenies, should be incorporated into university teaching. They found elevenies, a type of literature, suitable for summarizing content of organic chemistry, a natural science. The majority (about 65%) stated that they secretly looked forward to the presentation of the elevenies during the lecture, indicating an increase in motivation. In addition, 83% of the respondents wanted to adduce elevenies to repeat and learn the teaching material. However, only about 20% could imagine writing elevenies themselves as part of the learning process. With 94% approval, the respondents gave a clear vote to retain elevenies in future semesters. This suggests the students' perception of elevenies as an educational tool. Their ease of use could certainly be extended to other subject areas, provided that the topics addressed are not too complex.
The presented case focuses on the preservation of a body in a zinc coffin. During preparation of new graves at a cemetery a very well-preserved body was found. Due to the very good preservation of the body, it was first assumed that the man had recently been buried, perhaps even secretly, since the cemetery was no longer used for burials since years. However, the grave was identified, and the man had died about 47 years ago in a traffic accident in a neighboring country. He was buried in a zinc coffin. Experiences with bodies in zinc coffins are rare, and the possible mechanisms of the preservation will be discussed.
The rise of 'cryptojacking' - the covert use of victim resources for unauthorised cryptocurrency mining - has become a significant cyber threat since the introduction of Bitcoin. Such cryptomining malware secretly hijacks a user's computational power to generate cryptocurrency without their knowledge or consent, leading to reduced and/or degraded performance at the victim's expense. This paper presents a systematic literature review of 119 articles tracing the evolution of cryptomining malware, past trends in their dissemination and detection, security recommendations, and anticipated future developments. We specifically highlight the dual impact of this threat, which targets not only individual users on devices like IoT, mobile phones, and cloud infrastructures, but also critical national infrastructure, large corporate networks, and high-traffic websites. Our analysis reveals that the threat landscape, which significantly expanded around 2017, continues to grow steadily. Additionally, we systematically identify and discuss detection methods - such as network traffic analysis, CPU utilization monitoring, and machine learning classifiers - as well as security recommendations like browser extensions, patch management, and network-level blocking. Our findings highlight the urgent need for a unified, multi-stakeholder security strategy to mitigate this pervasive and adaptable threat.
An well-organized growth of smart services in the Internet of Things (IoT) communication system, the entire sensitive and crucial information is destroyed due to the occurrence of harmful attacks and behaviors in the data transmission performance. Therefore, the identification of threats in IoT system is significant for significantly protecting a large amount of sensitive data from hackers. In recent times, numerous threat detection frameworks have been designed for timely recognizing and localizing threat behaviors in IoT system. Yet, it is not suitable for easily recognizing subtle amounts of abnormal behaviors in an IoT system to make more inaccurate results in the detection process, minimizing earlier decision-making and generalization ability. Additionally, it requires more training duration and validation measures to successfully provide a better detection solution at dynamic IoT environmental conditions. In a communication system, blockchain technology was integrated with IoT to attain better data transmission. Executing threat detection in an IoT network through blockchain aids in controlling the tamperproof and decentralized nature of the network. Moreover, the blockchain technique secretly records and shares the essential information associated with the threats, which helps to identify the malicious activities over the network. In some cases, the auditabiity as well as transparency of the network are observed, and also the blockchain is considered as the immutable ledger to store the information. Furthermore, verifying the threats among several devices helps to recognize and react to cyber-attacks. So, this research work designs an intelligent machine model for real-time threat recognition in IoT utilizing blockchain technology. Here, blockchain-based Advanced Proof-of-Authority (BC-APoA) is introduced in this research work that utilize the potential of digital certificates rather than traditional data contracts, and it minimizes the overhead of the system, thus enhancing scalability and energy efficiency. Moreover, to tackle the dataset imbalance issue, an intelligent machine-learning model is used for threat detection. At first, the needed data are collected and given to the feature extraction process. Here, two sets of features are differentiated using a Support Vector Machine (SVM) and t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE). The obtained features are then given to the Adaptive Deep Conditional Random Fields (ADeepCRF) for further processing of the data. In this paper, we propose a novel Improved Random Variable-based Skill Optimization Algorithm (IRV-SOA) for timely tuning the significant, learning rate, steps per epoch and hidden neuron counts parameters of the ADeepCRF mechanism, enhancing better generalization and decision-making. Finally, the developed IRV-SOA model provides the threat-detected outcome. Then, the efficiency of the designed approach is proved by contrasted it with existing approaches. In the estimation phase, the proposed framework has achieved better accuracy values of 95.1%, 95.2%, 95.4%, 95.5% and 95.6% in terms of various hidden neuron counts, such as 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, and 500th.
The deceased was an unmarried, 29-year-old male accountant who had an unhappy childhood. He secretly purchased (online) a large helium cylinder of the type used to inflate party balloons pretending he was having a birthday celebration in his home. However, instead, he used the cylinder in a hotel bedroom to commit suicide leaving a hand-written suicide note and a Facebook post, indicating clear suicidal ideation. Analysis of the deceased's browser history revealed that he had surfed the net on the properties and acquisition of helium gas, making it clear that this purchase was not an impulse buy.
Being on the "down low" (DL) describes men who identify as straight and secretly engage in same-sex encounters while maintaining heterosexual public identities. While the DL phenomenon has been discussed primarily in the context of African American men, Latino men in the United States experience similar patterns of sexual concealment shaped by cultural forces not experienced similarly by other groups. Relatively little is still known about how machismo, familismo, and religious values affect the sexual decisions and health outcomes of Latino men who have sex with men (MSM), and most existing research aggregates Latino MSM with other racial and ethnic minorities without examining their experiences separately. This article applies three theoretical frameworks to the DL among Latino men. The concealment-specific model is used to explore how the act of hiding same-sex behavior produces anxiety, depression, and ongoing self-monitoring, particularly within cultural settings where discovery threatens masculine standing and family belonging. Sexual configuration theory is used to examine why Western categories of gay and bisexual do not fit the way many Latino men understand their own sexuality, especially in cultural contexts where sexual role rather than partner gender defines sexual identity. Syndemic theory is used to examine how conditions such as homophobia, HIV stigma, substance use, poverty, and immigration status interact to worsen health outcomes for this population. The findings of this analysis suggest that DL behavior among Latino men is shaped by the interaction of cultural, psychological, and structural conditions and cannot be understood through any single framework alone. Applied in combination, these theories explain DL behavior among Latino men more fully than established Western approaches. This article is intended to support future empirical research and the development of culturally informed interventions for Latino MSM.
The famous French scientist, Emile Roux, was previously discovered to have been secretly married to an English woman, Rose Anna Shedlock, one of the first women medical school students in Britain and Europe. Emile and Rose most likely met while in medical school in Paris, although for very different reasons, neither graduated. It was previously suggested that Rose left medical school after only a few years, although we present new evidence that that she was still a medical student four years later when she would have been near completion. Regardless, Rose moved back to England prior to taking her qualifying exams, where we found she lived at a girl's boarding school where one of her sisters was head mistress. In the following year, Emile travelled to London where he and Rose were married in a quiet civil ceremony. Soon after the wedding, Emile returned to Paris where he began working as an assistant to Louis Pasteur. In a tragic twist of fate, Rose died a year later in Madeira, which we have now noted was within days of when Emile performed his breakthrough experiments that led to the creation of vaccines in the laboratory.
Child physical abuse is often perceived as a crime perpetrated within the family and out of sight. However, recent studies have indicated the presence of others during incidents of physical abuse. The current study was designed to examine the experiences and perceptions of children who were physically abused in their families concerning the presence of others, as conveyed during their forensic interviews. A thematic analysis of 26 forensic interviews was conducted with Israeli children aged 5-13. Three main themes were identified: (1) Patterns, roles, and coping mechanisms: The multifaceted spectrum of familial abuse; (2) The echoes of family reactions: Shaping children's abuse experiences; and (3) Navigating the storm together: Sibling bonds amidst familial abuse. The children's narratives highlighted their distress and pointed to the abusive and chaotic daily routine in which they lived. In spotlighting their encounters with physical abuse, the children focused on their need to be seen and gain certainty in their daily routines. The discussion highlights the unique and elusive dynamics of families in which child physical abuse occurs and challenges the social perception that physical abuse occurs secretly. The characteristics of such abuse highlight the urgent need for policymakers and professionals to treat the phenomenon of physical abuse within the family as a visible phenomenon.
