The aim of this paper is to identify the determinants of international stock markets integration. Intuitively we selected a great number of factors linked to financial integration. Then, we developed an international asset-pricing model with time-varying degree of integration. This model is estimated for 30 countries (10 developed countries and 20 emerging countries) using panel data econometrics. In order to investigate whether the financial integration in emerging markets and that in developed markets react differently to the economic and financial innovations, we estimated the model as well jointly for all markets as separately for developed markets and emerging markets. Our results show that trade openness exerts a positive effect on financial integration across all markets, the global factors drive integration in developed markets whereas the factors related to economic and political stability affect financial integration in emerging markets.
The realization of blue electroluminescence with high efficiency and lifetime remains a long-standing hurdle for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology to overcome. Divalent Europium [Europium(II)] complexes offer a fundamentally distinct pathway toward this goal, as their atomic 4f-5d transitions yield single-Gaussian, spectrally pure emission with theoretical 100% exciton utilization in electroluminescence and no involvement of fragile organic bonds in the emissive process. Here, we present a rigid aza-crown europium(II) complex (Eu5NHCrown) that achieves near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield with bright, pure-blue emission and its incorporation in OLEDs. The emitter complex sublimes without decomposition and can be processed by industry-standard vacuum deposition. A bottom-emitting, single-host OLED architecture delivers an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 20.7% with minimal roll-off (19.3% at 1000 cd m${}^{-2}$ ) and a narrowband electroluminescence with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.12, 0.25). This ligand design provides enhanced steric shielding of the Eu(II) center, enabling the highest reported efficiency among vacuum-depo
Cycling competition is highly interesting since the team ranking is based on the best performance of some subset of team members. The paper develops new inequality indicators, a methodology to construct them, and numerical illustrations allowing to provide operative arguments in their favor. The numerical illustrations subsequently deal with hierarchical ranking indicators of (female) cyclist teams, competing in multi-stage races. For the illustration, the 2023 editions of the most famous long races for females are considered: 34th Giro d'Italia Donne, 2nd Tour de France Femmes, 9th Vuelta Femenina. Several classical ranking indicators are recalled and adapted to the study cases. The most usual indicator, $T_L$, is based on the riders arriving time for the various stages, i.e., according to Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) standard rules. One also uses another indicator, $A_L$, which requires that the riders finish the race, whence each stage, in order to define the race best team. Another contribution of the paper derives from specific developments of these indicators, thereby leading to new measures: the ''leadership gap" based on $A_L-T_L$, and the ''competition temperature",
Background: Smartphone-based dermatology requires inter-device colorimetric reliability that holds across calibration regimes, yet quantitative multi-device benchmarks remain scarce. Materials and Methods: We analyzed matched facial images from 965 Korean subjects captured by a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera, a consumer tablet, and a consumer smartphone, and evaluated two calibration methods against the DSLR reference. The methods are standard global linear Color Correction Matrix (CCM) normalization and region-specific CCM trained per anatomical region, both applied in Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage Lab* (CIELAB) space. Results: Linear CCM reduced inter-device color differences by 61-74% and placed both Melanin Index (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.80) and Individual Typology Angle (ITA, ICC = 0.78) in the good reliability band. Region-specific CCM raised both indices into the excellent reliability band (MI ICC = 0.95, ITA ICC = 0.93), with anatomical region exceeding the source device as the largest pre-calibration variance contributor (analysis-of-variance $η^2 = 0.18$ versus 0.12). Conclusion: Consumer-device skin colorimetry therefore achieves
This study aimed to: (1) understand whether commercially available computer-vision and artificial intelligence (AI) player tracking software can accurately measure player position, speed and distance using broadcast footage and (2) determine the impact of camera feed and resolution on accuracy. Data were obtained from one match at the 2022 Qatar Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup. Tactical, programme and camera 1 feeds were used. Three commercial tracking providers that use computer-vision and AI participated. Providers analysed instantaneous position (x, y coordinates) and speed (m\,s^{-1}) of each player. Their data were compared with a high-definition multi-camera tracking system (TRACAB Gen 5). Root mean square error (RMSE) and mean bias were calculated. Position RMSE ranged from 1.68 to 16.39 m, while speed RMSE ranged from 0.34 to 2.38 m\,s^{-1}. Total match distance mean bias ranged from -1745 m (-21.8%) to 1945 m (24.3%) across providers. Computer-vision and AI player tracking software offer the ability to track players with fair precision when players are detected by the software. Providers should use a tactical feed when tracking position a
Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dicakcoganite (TMD) materials have unique electronic and optical properties. The electronic band structures of the materials alter as a function of layer numbers, which results in modifications to the whole characteristic properties. Therefore, the determination of the layer number is crucial for optoelectronic applications. In this study, a fast and easily applicable method is proposed for determining the layer number of two-dimensional TMD materials by using an optical microscopy and computatial methods. The method uses image processing techniques on digital images taken with a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) camera under a conventional reflecting microscope. The chromaticity differences and lightness difference in International Commission on Illumination (Commission internationale de ,CIE) Luv color space values between the layered areas on the flakes and substrates are used together to train the model to be identified the layer numbers of the materials and corrected via photoluminescence spectroscopy. The random forest clasifier algorithm is applied to predict layer numbers on unknown materials. This approach provides high ac
Digital dentistry represents a transformative shift in modern dental practice. The foundational step in this transformation is the accurate digital representation of the patient's dentition, which is obtained from segmented Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Intraoral Scans (IOS). Despite the growing interest in digital dental technologies, existing segmentation methodologies frequently lack rigorous validation and demonstrate limited performance and clinical applicability. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to introduce a multimodal pretraining framework for tooth segmentation. We present ToothMCL, a Tooth Multimodal Contrastive Learning for pretraining that integrates volumetric (CBCT) and surface-based (IOS) modalities. By capturing modality-invariant representations through multimodal contrastive learning, our approach effectively models fine-grained anatomical features, enabling precise multi-class segmentation and accurate identification of Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) tooth numbering. Along with the framework, we curated CBCT-IOS3.8K, the largest paired CBCT and IOS dataset to date, comprising 3,867 patients. We then evaluated ToothMCL on
In this note, we review the history of Khintchine's Theorem which is the foundation of metric Diophantine approximation, and discuss several generalizations and recent breakthroughs in this area. We focus particularly on the direction of the Duffin-Schaeffer Conjecture which was spectacularly proven in 2020. We present some simplified key ideas of the proof that can also be applied in various other areas of number theory.
This work presents and evaluates the ranking algorithm that has been used by Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) since 2020. The prominent feature of the FIVB ranking is the use of the probabilistic model, which explicitly calculates the probabilities of the future matches results using the estimated teams' strengths. Such explicit modeling is new in the context of official sport rankings, especially for multi-level outcomes, and we study the optimality of its parameters using both analytical and numerical methods. We conclude that from the modeling perspective, the current thresholds fit well the data but adding the home-field advantage (HFA) would be beneficial. Regarding the algorithm itself, we explain the rationale behind the approximations currently used and show a simple method to find new parameters (numerical score) which improve the performance. We also show that the weighting of the match results is counterproductive.
This study examines the effects of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations on Formula 1 (F1) from 1990 to 2023, focusing on safety, racing dynamics, and spectacle. By analyzing data on fatalities, overtaking statistics, car weights, and significant regulatory changes, including aerodynamic modifications and the introduction of the Drag Reduction System (DRS), the study assesses whether these regulations have positively influenced safety while negatively impacting racing dynamics and spectacle. The findings reveal that while FIA regulations aim to enhance driver safety, their immediate association with fatalities is not statistically significant due to the rarity of such incidents, delayed safety effects, and methodological constraints. Contrary to initial concerns, regulations have not negatively affected overtaking opportunities. The introduction of DRS has improved overtaking, mitigating some adverse impacts of other regulations on racing excitement. The study concludes that data-driven evaluation and refinement of regulations are necessary to ensure they continue to benefit the sport holistically.
Since 2014, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile has prescribed a parallel hybrid powertrain for the Formula 1 race cars. The complex low-level interactions between the thermal and the electrical part represent a non-trivial and challenging system to be controlled online. We present a novel controller architecture composed of a supervisory controller for the energy management, a feedforward cylinder deactivation controller, and a track region-dependent low-level nonlinear model predictive controller to optimize the engine actuators. Except for the nonlinear model predictive controller, the proposed controller subsystems are computationally inexpensive and are real time capable. The framework is tested and validated in a simulation environment for several realistic scenarios disturbed by driver actions or grip conditions on the track. In particular, we analyze how the control architecture deals with an unexpected gearshift trajectory during an acceleration phase. Further, we demonstrate how an increased maximum velocity trajectory impacts the online low-level controller. Our results show a suboptimality over an entire lap with respect to the benchmark solution of 49 ms and
Climate change will result in more frequent, more intense and longer-lasting heat waves by 2050. As part of its Climate Plan and its resilience strategy, the City of Paris is deploying, through its Oasis program, a network of urban cool islands to mitigate the urban heat island phenomena: schoolyards are renovated in order to reduce the heat stress of users. We establish a methodology aiming to quantify the microclimatic impact of the transformation. Mobile measurements are carried out within a case courtyard under hot conditions and coupled with fixed weather station data to evaluate heat stress using UTCI. The heat stress mapping thus obtained allows a first microclimatic diagnosis of the schoolyard.
We define an extension of predicate logic, called Binding Logic, where variables can be bound in terms and in propositions. We introduce a notion of model for this logic and prove a soundness and completeness theorem for it. This theorem is obtained by encoding this logic back into predicate logic and using the classical soundness and completeness theorem there.
During an activity, knowing the mental workload (MWL) of the user allows to improve the Human-Machine Interactions (HMI). Indeed, the MWL has an impact on the individual and its interaction with the environment. Monitoring it is therefore a crucial issue. In this context, we have created the virtual game Back to Pizza which is based on the N-back task (commonly used for measuring MWL). In this more playful variant, users must carry out orders from customers of a pizza food truck. It is an interactive game that involves the audience of the IHM'23 conference, choosing several parameters like the number of ingredients. During this experience, the objective is to measure MWL in real time through an ElectroEncephaloGraph (EEG) and visual feedback on MWL level is given to the audience. With this demonstration, we propose to present a concept of a virtual interactive game that measures MWL in real time.
The "100-year flood" is commonly used, for instance in newspapers, but flood hazard assessment is more complex than it seems. We first describe an animation entitled "bag of floods" to make flood quantiles more concrete, using marbles whose colour corresponds to a class of return period. Discussing the analogies and differences between drawing a marble from the bag and the next annual flood make it easier to explain that flood hazard assessment (i) must not be focussed on the "100-yr flood", (ii) is often expressed as a probability over one given year, but for planning it should be estimated over a much longer duration (like successive draws from the bag) and (iii) variability is significant and matters. Scripts allowing to simulate long series of draws confirm that empirical probabilities get close to theoretical probabilities, but also illustrate less intuitive results : on average one quarter of 100 successive draws, contains two floods or more with a discharge exceeding the "100-yr discharge". To go further, Sample2Gumbel is a teaching tool drawing annual maxima discharges. It compares on a graph (i) a "real distribution", coded in the script and used to draw a sample, (ii) the
We provide an introductory review of some topics in spectral theory of Laplacians on metric graphs. We focus on three different aspects: the trace formula, the self-adjointness problem and connections between Laplacians on metric graphs and discrete graph Laplacians.
In this work we study the ranking algorithm used by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA); we analyze the parameters it currently uses, show the formal probabilistic model from which it can be derived, and optimize the latter. In particular, analyzing the games since the introduction of the algorithm in 2018, we conclude that the game's "importance" (as defined by FIFA) used in the algorithm is counterproductive from the point of view of the predictive capability of the algorithm. We also postulate the algorithm to be rooted in the formal modelling principle, where the Davidson model proposed in 1970 seems to be an excellent candidate, preserving the form of the algorithm currently used. The results indicate that the predictive capability of the algorithm is notably improved by using the home-field advantage and the explicit model for the draws in the game. Moderate, but notable improvement may be attained by introducing the weighting of the results with the goal differential, which although not rooted in a formal modelling principle, is compatible with the current algorithm and can be tuned to the characteristics of the football competition.
We described an approach to achieve fine color control of fluorescent White Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLED), based on an Ultra-thin Premixed emitting Layer (UPL). The UPL consists of a mixture of two dyes (red-emitting 4-di(4'-tert-butylbiphenyl-4-yl)amino-4'-dicyanovinylbenzene or fvin and green-emitting 4-di(4'-tert-butylbiphenyl-4-yl)aminobenzaldehyde or fcho) premixed in a single evaporation cell: since these two molecules have comparable structures and similar melting temperatures, a blend can be evaporated, giving rise to thin films of identical and reproducible composition compared to those of the pre-mixture. The principle of fine color tuning is demonstrated by evaporating a 1-nm-thick layer of this blend within the hole-transport layer (4,4'-bis[N-(1-naphtyl)-N-phenylamino]biphenyl (α-NPB)) of a standard fluorescent OLED structure. Upon playing on the position of the UPL inside the hole-transport layer, as well as on the premix composition, two independent parameters are available to finely control the emitted color. Combined with blue emission from the heterojunction, white light with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage 1931 color coordinates (0.34, 0.34) was o

In this study, we fabricated hybrid white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) based on triplet harvesting with simple structure. All the hole transporting material and host in emitting layer (EML) of devices were utilized with same material by using N,N'-di-1-naphthalenyl-N,N'-diphenyl-[1,1':4',1":4",1"'-quaterphenyl]-4,4"'-diamine (4P-NPD) which were known to be blue fluorescent material. Simple hybrid WOLEDs were fabricated three color with blue fluorescent and green, red phosphorescent materials. We was investigated the effect of triplet harvesting (TH) by exciton generation zone on simple hybrid WOLEDs. Characteristic of simple hybrid WOLEDs were dominant hole mobility, therefore exciton generation zone was expected in EML. Additionally, we was optimization thickness of hole transporting layer and electron transporting layer was fabricated a simple hybrid WOLEDs. Simple hybrid WOLED exhibits maximum luminous efficiency of 29.3 cd/A and maximum external quantum efficiency of 11.2%. Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination) coordinates of (0.45, 0.43) at about 10,000 cd/m^2.
