The associated production of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathit{\mathitΥ}$ mesons in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13\,\mathrm{TeV}$ is studied using LHCb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The measurement is performed for $J/ψ$ ($\mathitΥ$) mesons with a transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}<10\,(30)\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$ in the rapidity range $2.0<y<4.5$. In this kinematic range, the cross-section of the associated production of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ mesons is measured to be $133 \pm 22 \pm 7 \pm 3 \, \mathrm{pb}$, with a significance of $7.9\,σ$, and that of prompt $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(2S)$ mesons to be $76\pm 21 \pm 4 \pm 7 \, \mathrm{pb}$, with a significance of $4.9\,σ$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to uncertainties on the used branching fractions. This is the first observation of the associated production of $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ in proton-proton collisions. Differential cross-sections are measured as functions of variables that are sensitive to kinematic correlations between the $J/ψ$ and $\mathitΥ(1S)$ mesons. The effective cross-sections of the associate
The production cross-section of $J/ψ$ pairs in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. The measurement is performed with both $J/ψ$ mesons in the transverse momentum range $0<p_{\text{T}}<14$ GeV/$c$ and rapidity range $2.0<y<4.5$. The cross-section of this process is measured to be 16.36$\pm$0.28(stat)$\pm$0.88(syst) nb. The contributions from single-parton scattering and double-parton scattering are separated based on the dependence of the cross-section on the absolute rapidity difference $Δy$ between the two $J/ψ$ mesons. The effective cross-section of double-parton scattering is measured to be $σ_{\text{eff}}=$13.1$\pm$1.8(stat)$\pm$2.3(syst) mb. The distribution of the azimuthal angle $φ_{\text{CS}}$ of one of the $J/ψ$ mesons in the Collins-Soper frame and the $p_{\text{T}}$-spectrum of the $J/ψ$ pairs are also measured for the study of the gluon transverse-momentum dependent distributions inside protons. The extracted values of $\langle\cos2φ_{\text{CS}}\rangle$ and $\langle\cos4φ_{\text{CS}}\rangle$ are con
A time-integrated angular analysis of the decay $B^0_s \rightarrow J/ψ\overline{K}{}^{*}\kern-1pt(892)^{0}$, with $J/ψ\rightarrow μ^{+} μ^{-}$ and $\overline{K}{}^{*}\kern-1pt(892)^{0} \rightarrow K^{-} π^{+}$, is presented. The analysis employs a sample of proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during 2015-2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of $13 \text{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $6 \text{fb}^{-1}$. A simultaneous maximum-likelihood fit is performed to the angular distributions in bins of the $K^{-} π^{+}$ mass. This fit yields measurements of the $CP$-averaged polarisation fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for the P-wave component of the $K^{-} π^{+}$ system. The longitudinal and parallel polarisation fractions are determined to be $f_{0} = 0.534 \pm 0.012 \pm 0.009$ and $f_{\parallel} = 0.211 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.005$, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The $CP$ asymmetries are measured with $3$-$7\%$ precision and are found to be consistent with zero. These measurements, along with an updated determination of the branching fraction relative to the $B^0 \rightarrow J/ψK^{*0}$ decay, are comb
The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is measured with a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 658 pb$^{-1}$. The ratio is measured for both prompt and non-prompt $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. When there is an overlap between the rapidity ranges over which multiplicity and charmonia production are measured, a multiplicity-dependent modification of the ratio is observed for prompt mesons. No significant multiplicity dependence is found when the ranges do not overlap. For non-prompt production, the $ψ(2S)-to-J/ψ$ production ratio is roughly independent of multiplicity irrespective of the rapidity range over which the multiplicity is measured. The results are compared to predictions of the co-mover model and agree well except in the low multiplicity region. The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons are cross-checked with other measurements in di-lepton channels and found to be compatible.
The production ratio of $ψ(2S)$ to $J/ψ$ charmonium states is presented as a function of multiplicity in proton-lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16$ TeV, for both prompt and nonprompt sources. The total luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment corresponds to 13.6 $pb^{-1}$ for $p$Pb collisions and 20.8 $pb^{-1}$ for Pb$p$ collisions, where the first particle indicates the forward direction of the detector. Measurements are performed in the dimuon final state at forward (backward) centre-of-mass rapidity $1.5<y^*<4.0$ ($-5.0<y^*<-2.5$) for $p$Pb (Pb$p$) collisions.A multiplicity dependence of the prompt production ratio is observed in $p$Pb collisions, whereas no dependence is found in nonprompt production, nor in either prompt or nonprompt production in Pb$p$ collisions. These results suggest that in the Pb-going direction additional suppression mechanisms beyond comover effects may be present, possibly related to the formation of quark-gluon plasma. This highlights a transition from small to large collision systems and provides important insight into the suppression of charmonia in proton-nucleus collisions.
We search for the reaction channel $e^+ e^- \to ηη\,J/ψ$ in a data sample with center-of-mass energies from 4.226 to 4.950~GeV, which was collected by the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII). The data analysis is performed with two different methods, exclusively and semi-inclusively, which enabling a comparison and combination of the results. Only in a few cases a statistical significance of the cross sections with more than $3σ$ is observed with one of the methods. Only at 4.750~GeV the significance of the cross section measurement is 8.9$σ$ (observation) with the exclusive analysis and 3.4$σ$ (evidence) with the semi-inclusive analysis. Therefore, the corresponding upper limits of the cross section at the 90% confidence level are determined. The energy dependent results show clear deviations from the the line shape expected from three-body phase space alone. Since the statistical significance for almost all center-of-mass energies is low, the upper limits for the reaction channel $e^+ e^- \to ηη\,J/ψ$ also serve as limits for the existence of a possible isospin partner to the charmonium-like isospin triplet $Z_{\rm c}(3900)$ which decays t
A measurement of the ratio of semileptonic branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(Jψ)$, defined as $\mathcal{R}(J/ψ) \equiv \mathcal{B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψτ^+ ν_τ)/\mathcal{B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψμ^+ ν_μ)$, is reported using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the LHCb experiment in 2016--2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measured value is found to be $\mathcal{R}(J/ψ) = 0.51 \pm 0.12\text{(stat)} \pm 0.08\text{(syst)}$, which is within 1.8 standard deviations of the predictions from the Standard Model assuming lepton flavor universality.
Branching fraction ratios between the decays $B^{0}_{(s)} \rightarrow J/ψη^{(\prime)}$ are measured using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of $7$, $8$ and $13~\textrm{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9~ \textrm{fb}^{-1}$. The measured ratios of these branching fractions are $\frac{BF(B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime})}{BF(B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψη)} = 0.48 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.01$ and $\frac{BF(B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow J/ψη^{\prime})}{BF(B^{0}_{s} \rightarrow J/ψη)} = 0.80 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.01$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and related to the precision of the $η^{(\prime)}$ branching fractions, respectively. They are used to constrain the $η/η^{\prime}$ mixing angle, $φ_{P}$, and to probe the presence of a possible glueball component in the $η^{\prime}$ meson, described by the gluonic mixing angle $φ_{G}$. The obtained results are $φ_{P} = (41.6^{+1.0}_{-1.2})^\circ$ and $φ_{G} = (28.1^{+3.9}_{-4.0})^\circ$, where the uncertainties are statistically dominated. While the value of $φ_{P}$ is compatible with existing experimental determinations and theoretical calculations, the angle $φ
The fraction of $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ decays in the prompt $J/ψ$ yield, $F_{χc}=σ_{χ_c \to J/ψ}/σ_{J/ψ}$, is measured by the LHCb detector in pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=8.16$ TeV. The study covers the forward ($1.5<y^*<4.0$) and backward ($-5.0<y^*<-2.5$) rapidity regions, where $y^*$ is the $J/ψ$ rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass system. Forward and backward rapidity samples correspond to integrated luminosities of 13.6 $\pm$ 0.3 nb$^{-1}$ and 20.8 $\pm$ 0.5 nb$^{-1}$, respectively. The result is presented as a function of the $J/ψ$ transverse momentum $p_{T,J/ψ}$ in the range 1$<p_{T, J/ψ}<20$ GeV/$c$. The $F_{χc}$ fraction at forward rapidity is compatible with the LHCb measurement performed in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, whereas the result at backward rapidity is 2.4 $σ$ larger than in the forward region for $1<p_{T, J/ψ}<3$ GeV/$c$. The increase of $F_{χc}$ at low $p_{T, J/ψ}$ at backward rapidity is compatible with the suppression of the $ψ$(2S) contribution to the prompt $J/ψ$ yield. The lack of in-medium dissociation of $χ_c$ states observed in this study sets an upper limit of 180 MeV on the free energy available in these
The cross-section of associated $J/ψ$-$ψ(2S)$ production in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb$^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment. The measurement is performed for both $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ mesons having transverse momentum $p_{\text{T}}<14$ GeV/$c$ and rapidity $2.0<y<4.5$, assuming negligible polarisation of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ mesons. The production cross-section is measured to be $4.5\pm0.7\pm0.3$ nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The differential cross-sections are measured as functions of several kinematic variables of the $J/ψ$-$ψ(2S)$ candidates. The results are combined with a measurement of $J/ψ$-$J/ψ$ production, giving a cross-section ratio between $J/ψ$-$ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$-$J/ψ$ production of $0.274\pm0.044\pm0.008$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
The first observation of the $Ξ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^- π^+$ decay and the most precise measurement of the branching fraction of the $Λ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^- K^+$ decay are reported, using proton-proton collision data from the LHCb experiment collected in 2016--2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13~TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4~fb$^{-1}$. Using the $Λ_b^0 \to J/ψΛ$ and $Ξ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^-$ decays as normalisation channels, the ratios of branching fractions are measured to be: \[ \frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^- K^+)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0 \to J/ψΛ)} = (1.17 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.08)\times 10^{-2} \, , \] \[ \frac{\mathcal{B}(Ξ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^- π^+)}{\mathcal{B}(Ξ_b^0 \to J/ψΞ^-)} = (11.9 \pm 1.4 \pm 0.6)\times 10^{-2}\, , \] where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
The decay-time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0_s\to J/ψ(\to μ^{+}μ^{-}) K^{+}K^{-}$ decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 $fb^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Using a sample of approximately 349 000 $B^{0}_{s}$ signal decays with an invariant $K^{+}K^{-}$ mass in the vicinity of the $φ(1020)$ resonance, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s$ is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the $B^0_s$-$\bar{B}^0_s$ system, $ΔΓ_s$, and the difference of the average $B^0_s$ and $B^0$ meson decay widths, $Γ_s-Γ_d$. The values obtained are $φ_s = \ -0.039 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.006$ rad, $ΔΓ_s = 0.0845 \pm 0.0044 \pm 0.0024 $ ps$^{-1}$ and $Γ_s-Γ_d = -0.0056 ^{+ 0.0013}_{-0.0015} \pm 0.0014$ ps$^{-1}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with the previous LHCb analyses of this decay. These results are combined with previous independent LHCb measurements. The phase $φ_s$ is also measured in
Based on a sample of $(10087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we report the first observation of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow K^- Σ^0 \barΞ^++c.c.$. A partial wave analysis is performed to investigate the involved excited states. In addition to the well-established $Ξ(1690)$, a new doubly-strange hyperon $Ξ(1720) $ is observed decaying to $K^- Σ^0$ with a mass of $1721.0 \pm 5.2_{\rm stat.} \pm 3.4_{\rm syst.} ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and a width of $31.3 \pm 18.3_{\rm stat.} \pm 15.4_{\rm syst.} ~{\rm MeV}$, with a statistical significance exceeding $10σ$. The spin-parity hypothesis testing across various quantum number configurations reveals that the spin-parity of $Ξ(1720)$ favors $J^P = {\frac{3}{2}}^+$. Furthermore, the branching fraction of $J/ψ\rightarrow K^- Σ^0 \barΞ^++c.c.$ is determined to be $(2.68 \pm 0.04_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.17_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-5}$.
Based on a novel method for producing antineutrons via $J/ψ$ decays, we report a study of $\bar{n}p$ inelastic scattering into final states containing kaons. The analysis uses $(10087\pm44)\times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected at the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Antineutrons are produced via $J/ψ\to p π^{-} \bar{n}$ decays and tagged by the detected protons and pions, resulting in antineutron momenta ranging from 0 to 1174~MeV/$c$, while target protons are provided by the hydrogen in the beam-pipe material. The flux-averaged cross sections of the reactions $\bar{n}p \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}$ and $\bar{n}p \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ over this antineutron momentum spectrum are measured to be $0.53^{+0.15}_{-0.12} \pm 0.08$~mb and $1.09^{+0.36}_{-0.30} \pm 0.31$~mb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to limited statistics, the intermediate states in these processes are not quantitatively investigated. The observation of clean antineutron-proton scattering candidates indicates the potential of this approach for future investigations of antineutron-proton interactions.
Measurements are presented of the cross-section for the central exclusive production of $J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-$ and $ψ(2S)\toμ^+μ^-$ processes in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13 $ TeV with 2016-2018 data. They are performed by requiring both muons to be in the LHCb acceptance (with pseudorapidity $2<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5$) and mesons in the rapidity range $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The integrated cross-section results are \begin{equation*} σ_{J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{J/ψ}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 400 \pm 2 \pm 5 \pm 12 \,{\rm pb}\,, \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} σ_{ψ(2S)\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{ψ(2S)}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 9.40 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.27 \,{\rm pb}\,, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the luminosity determination. In addition, a measurement of the ratio of $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ cross-sections, at an average photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of 1 TeV, is performed, giving \begin{equation*} \frac{σ_{ψ(2S)}}{σ_{J/ψ}} = 0.1763 \pm 0.0029 \pm 0.0008 \pm 0.0039 \,, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the involved branching f
Using $(10\,087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the process $J/ψ\toγηπ^0$. The decay is dominated by the intermediate processes $J/ψ\toπ^0 b_1(1235)^0 \toγηπ^0$, $J/ψ\toπ^{0}ρ(1450)^0 \toγηπ^0$ and $J/ψ\toηh_1(1170) \toγηπ^0$. Contributions from $J/ψ\toγa_0(980)^0\toγηπ^0$, $J/ψ\toγa_2(1320)^0\toγηπ^0$ and $J/ψ\toγa_2(1700)^0\toγηπ^0$ are observed with a statistical significance exceeding $5σ$, constituting the first observation of radiative transitions of $J/ψ$ to isospin-triplet scalar mesons. The total branching fraction of $J/ψ\toγηπ^0$ is measured to be $(25.7\pm0.3\pm1.5)\times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is consistent with the previous measurement, with the precision improved by more than a factor of two.
Using $e^+e^-$ collision data at 19 center-of-mass energies ranging from $4.396$ to $4.951~\mathrm{GeV}$ corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $8.86~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector, the process $e^+e^-\to K^{0}K^-π^+ J/ψ+c.c.$ is observed for the first time, with a statistical significance of $9.4σ$ summing up all the data samples. For this process, the cross section and the upper limit at the $90\%$ confidence level are reported at each of the 19 center-of-mass energies.~No statistically significant vector structures are observed in the cross section line shape, nor are any intermediate states of $Kπ$, $K\bar{K}$, $K\bar{K}π$, $KJ/ψ$, $πJ/ψ$, and $KπJ/ψ$ seen at individual energy points or in the combined data sample.
The first observation of the $B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+ π^0$ decay is reported with high significance using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The ratio of its branching fraction relative to the $B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+$ channel is measured to be $$ \frac{ {\cal{B}}( B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+π^0 ) } { {\cal{B}}( B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+ ) } = 2.80 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.16 \,, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third related to imprecise knowledge of the branching fractions for $B^+ \to J/ψK^{*+}$ and $B^+ \to J/ψK^+$ decays, which are used to determine the $π^0$ detection efficiency. The $π^+π^0$ mass spectrum is found to be consistent with the dominance of an intermediate $ρ^+$ contribution in accordance with a model based on QCD factorisation.
This letter reports a study of associated $Z$ boson and prompt $J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the LHCb detector in the forward rapidity region, using a data sample taken during 2016 to 2018 corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.1 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The measured fiducial cross-section is $5.5 \pm 1.5$ pb, significantly exceeding the single-parton scattering expectation of $0.10 \pm 0.08$ pb, indicating that multiparton interactions dominate this process in the explored phase space. Interpreted within the standard double-parton scattering framework, the data yields an effective cross-section $σ_{\mathrm{eff}} = 16.6 \pm 4.7$ mb. This provides a direct experimental constraint on the transverse spatial structure of the proton in a kinematic regime characterized simultaneously by small Bjorken-$x$ and an electroweak hard scale set by the $Z$ boson mass.
This paper describes a measurement of the $Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ$ branching fraction using data collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions from 2016 to 2018. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4$\,\text{fb}^{-1}$. The branching fraction is determined relative to that of $B^0\to J/ψK^0_\text{S}$ decays, $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0\to J/ψK^0_\text{S}} = 0.750 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.062\,,$ yielding $\mathcal{B}(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ) = (3.34 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.28)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, the third due to external inputs on branching fractions and the fourth due to the ratio of $Λ_b^0$ baryon and $B^0$ meson hadronisation fractions. In addition, the isospin asymmetry between the rates of $B^0\to J/ψK^0_\text{S}$ and $B^+\to J/ψK^+$ decays is measured to be $A_{\rm I} = -0.0135 \pm 0.0004 \pm 0.0133$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
