Let ${\mathbb E}^d$ denote the $d$-dimensional Euclidean space. The $r$-ball body generated by a given set in ${\mathbb E}^d$ is the intersection of balls of radius $r$ centered at the points of the given set. The author [Discrete Optimization 44/1 (2022), Paper No. 100539] proved the following Blaschke-Santaló-type inequality for $r$-ball bodies: for all $0<k< d$ and for any set of given $d$-dimensional volume in ${\mathbb E}^d$ the $k$-th intrinsic volume of the $r$-ball body generated by the set becomes maximal if the set is a ball. In this note we give a new proof showing also the uniqueness of the maximizer. Some applications and related questions are mentioned as well.
We construct an algebra of dimension $2^{\aleph_0}$ consisting only of functions which in no point possess a finite one-sided derivative. We further show that some well known nowhere differentiable functions generate algebras, which contain functions which are differentiable at some points, but where for all functions in the algebra the set of points of differentiability is quite small.
We present examples of multiplicative semigroups of positive reals (Beurling's generalized integers) with gaps bounded from below.
Let $Top_c$ be the category of compact spaces and continuous maps and $Top_f\subset Top_c$ be the full subcategory of finite spaces. Consider the covariant functor $Mor:Top_f^{op}\times Top_c\to Top_c$ that associates any pair $(X,Y)$ with the space of all morphisms from $X$ to $Y$. In this paper, we describe a non commutative version of $Mor$. More pricelessly, we define a functor $\mathfrak{M}\mathfrak{o}\mathfrak{r}$, that takes any pair $(B,C)$ of a finitely generated unital C*-algebra $B$ and a finite dimensional C*-algebra $C$ to the quantum family of all morphism from $B$ to $C$.
There exists a large class of groups of operators acting on Hilbert spaces, where commutativity of group elements can be expressed in the geometric language of symplectic polar spaces embedded in the projective spaces PG($n, p$), $n$ being odd and $p$ a prime. Here, we present a result about commuting and non-commuting group elements based on the existence of so-called Moebius pairs of $n$-simplices, i. e., pairs of $n$-simplices which are \emph{mutually inscribed and circumscribed} to each other. For group elements representing an $n$-simplex there is no element outside the centre which commutes with all of them. This allows to express the dimension $n$ of the associated polar space in group theoretic terms. Any Moebius pair of $n$-simplices according to our construction corresponds to two disjoint families of group elements (operators) with the following properties: (i) Any two distinct elements of the same family do not commute. (ii) Each element of one family commutes with all but one of the elements from the other family. A three-qubit generalised Pauli group serves as a non-trivial example to illustrate the theory for $p=2$ and $n=5$.
Let $d,n$ be positive integers and $S$ be an arbitrary set of positive integers. We say that $d$ is an $S$-divisor of $n$ if $d|n$ and gcd $(d,n/d)\in S$. Consider the $S$-convolution of arithmetical functions given by (1.1), where the sum is extended over the $S$-divisors of $n$. We determine the sets $S$ such that the $S$-convolution is associative and preserves the multiplicativity of functions, respectively, and discuss other basic properties of it. We give asymptotic formulae with error terms for the functions $σ_S(n)$ and $τ_S(n)$, representing the sum and the number of $S$-divisors of $n$, respectively, for an arbitrary $S$. We improve the remainder terms of these formulae and find the maximal orders of $σ_S(n)$ and $τ_S(n)$ assuming additional properties of $S$. These results generalize, unify and sharpen previous ones. We also pose some problems concerning these topics.
In this paper we work out a Riemann-von Mangoldt type formula for the summatory function $ψ(x):=\sum_{g\in G, |g|\le x} Λ_{G}(g)$, where $G$ is an arithmetical semigroup (a Beurling generalized system of integers) and $Λ_{G}$ is the corresponding von Mangoldt function attaining $\log|p|$ for $g=p^k$ with a prime element $p\in G$ and zero otherwise. On the way towards this formula, we prove explicit estimates on the Beurling zeta function $ζ_{G}$, belonging to $G$, to the number of zeroes of $ζ_G$ in various regions, in particular within the critical strip where the analytic continuation exists, and to the magnitude of the logarithmic derivative of $ζ_G$, under the sole additional assumption that Knopfmacher's Axiom A is satisfied. We also construct a technically useful broken line contour to which the technic of integral transformation can be well applied. The whole work serves as a first step towards a further study of the distribution of zeros of the Beurling zeta function, providing appropriate zero density and zero clustering estimates, to be presented in the continuation of this paper.
We point out an asymptotic formula for the power moments of the function $a(n)$, representing the number of non-isomorphic Abelian groups of order $n$. For the quadratic moment this improves an earlier result due to L. Zhang, M. Lü and W. Zhai.
We give a classification of $1$-primitive near-rings using sandwich centralizer near-rings
We prove certain Menon-type identities associated with the subsets of the set $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$ and related to the functions $f$, $f_k$, $Φ$ and $Φ_k$, defined and investigated by Nathanson (2007).
