We derive the phase acquired by a neutral scalar particle propagating along Reissner-Nordstrom geodesics. Considering two flavours propagating on different trajectories which intersect, we plot the interference pattern induced by gravitational lensing from the charged compact object. Although the effect of the charge is subdominant in the metric, it proves to be significant in the phase, and shifts the interference pattern, compared to the Schwarzschild case. This pattern is characterised by two oscillation lengths which, if known, would allow the determination of both eigen masses independently.
We compute the tidal Love numbers for a particular axially symmetric configuration of extremal Reissner-Nordstrom geometry. By exactly solving the non-linear Einstein equations, we investigate the tidal response of extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in four-dimensional spacetimes under external gravitational fields. We show that, for the specific geometry considered, the static tidal Love number remains finite and non-vanishing to all orders in the external tidal field. By contrast, we verify that the Love number of an isolated extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole remains zero, in agreement with previous expectations. Furthermore, we explicitly calculate the Zerilli-Moncrief master functions and match them with the effective field theory description.
We study spherically symmetric spacetime perturbations induced by a neutral scalar in the near-horizon region of extreme Reissner-Nordstrom black holes. For the unperturbed black hole, the near-horizon region is given by another exact solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, namely the Bertotti-Robinson spacetime. Our aim is to extend this connection beyond the background level and identify perturbations of a Bertotti-Robinson spacetime as near-horizon perturbations of an extreme Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. We explain that explicit identification of the perturbative solutions to the two different backgrounds can only work in appropriate gauges. For this reason, we first solve the two perturbation problems in the most general spherically symmetric gauges and then find the necessary gauge conditions for matching the Reissner-Nordstrom and Bertotti-Robinson perturbative solutions in the near-horizon limit.
The superradiant stability of asymptotically flat D-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes under charged massive scalar perturbation is analytically studied. Recently, an analytical method has been proposed by the author and used to prove that five and six-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes are superradiantly stable under charged massive scalar perturbation. We apply this analytical method in the D-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole cases and prove that the D-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom black holes are all superradiantly stable under charged massive scalar perturbation. Our result is consistent with the previous numerical observation in the literature and provides a rigorous analytical proof.
The superradiant stability of higher dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole under charged massive scalar perturbation is analytically studied. We extend our previous studies of four- and five-dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole cases to six-dimensional case. By analyzing the derivative of the effective potential with an analytical method, we find that no potential well exists outside the outer horizon of the black hole for the superradiant scalar modes. This means that there is no black hole bomb for the system consisting of six-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom black hole and charged massive scalar perturbation and the system is superradiantly stable.
The geometry very near the horizon of a near-extreme Reissner-Nordstrom black hole is described by the direct product of a near-$AdS_2$ spacetime with a two-sphere. While near-$AdS_2$ is locally diffeomorphic to $AdS_2$ the two connect differently with the asymptotically flat part of the geometry of (near-)extreme Reissner-Nordstrom. In previous work, we solved analytically the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic perturbation equations of $AdS_2\times S^2$ and the associated connection problem with extreme Reissner-Nordstrom. In this paper, we give the solution for perturbations of near-$AdS_2\times S^2$ and make the connection with near-extreme Reissner-Nordstrom. Our results here may also be thought of as computing the classical scattering matrix for gravitational and electromagnetic waves which probe the region very near the horizon of a highly charged spherically symmetric black hole.
In the framework of black hole spectroscopy, we extend the results obtained for a charged black hole in an asymptotically flat spacetime to the scenario with non vanishing negative cosmological constant. In particular, exploiting Hamiltonian techniques, we construct the area spectrum for an AdS Reissner-Nordstrom black hole.
We have obtained Finslerian Ressiner-Nordstrom solution where it is asymptotic to a Finsler spacetime with constant flag curvature while $r\rightarrow\infty$. The covariant derivative of modified Einstein tensor in Finslerian gravitational field equation for this solution is conserved. The symmetry of the special Finslerian Ressiner-Nordstrom spacetime, namely, Finsler spacetime with constant flag curvature, has been investigated. It admits four independent Killing vectors. The Finslerian Ressiner-Nordstrom solution differs from Ressiner-Nordstrom metric only in two dimensional subspace. And our solution requires that its two dimensional subspace have constant flag curvature. We have obtained eigenfunction of Finslerian Laplace operator of "Finslerian sphere", namely, a special subspace with positive constant flag curvature. The eigenfunction is of the form $\bar{Y}_l^m=Y_l^m+ε^2(C_{l+2}^m Y_{l+2}^m+C_{l-2}^m Y_{l-2}^m)$ in powers of Finslerian parameter $ε$, where $C_{l+2}^m$ and $C_{l-2}^m$ are constant. However, the eigenvalue depends on both $l$ and $m$. The eigenvalues corresponded to $Y_1^0$ remain the same with Riemannian Laplace operator and the eigenvalues corresponded to
We are going to prove that the Monopole and the Coulomb fields are duals within the unifying structure provided by the Reissner-Nordstrom spacetime. This is accomplished when noticing that in order to produce the tetrad that locally and covariantly diagonalizes the stress-energy tensor, both the Monopole and the Coulomb fields are necessary in the construction. Without any of them it would be impossible to express the tetrad vectors that locally and covariantly diagonalize the stress-energy tensor. Then, both electromagnetic fields are an integral part of the same structure, the Reissner-Nordstrom geometry.
An analytic extension of the Reissner-Nordstrom solution at and beyond the singularity is presented. The extension is obtained by using new coordinates in which the metric becomes degenerate at $r=0$. The metric is still singular in the new coordinates, but its components become finite and smooth. Using this extension it is shown that the charged and non-rotating black hole singularities are compatible with the global hyperbolicity and with the conservation of the initial value data. Geometric models for electrically charged particles are obtained.
It was pointed out by Couch and Torrence that the extreme Reissner-Nordstrom solution possesses a discrete conformal isometry. Using results of Romans, it is shown that such a symmetry also exists when a non-zero cosmological constant is allowed.
We calculate the expectation values of the stress-energy tensor for both a massless minimally-coupled and dilaton-coupled 2D field propagating on an extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole, showing its regularity on the horizon in contrast with previous claims in the literature.
We solve numerically equations of motion for real self-interacting scalar fields in the background of Reissner-Nordstrom black hole and obtained a sequence of static axisymmetric solutions representing thick domain walls charged black hole systems. In the case of extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole solution we find that there is a parameter depending on the black hole mass and the width of the domain wall which constitutes the upper limit for the expulsion to occur.
The physical representation of the general double-Reissner-Nordstrom solution is obtained by rewriting the N=2 Breton-Manko-Aguilar electrostatic solution in the Varzugin-Chistyakov parametrization (M_i, Q_i, R). A concise analytical formula is derived for the interaction force between two arbitrary Reissner-Nordstrom constituents, and an example of the equilibrium configuration involving two oppositely charged particles which confirms earlier Bonnor's prediction of the existence of such configurations is given.
In his doctoral thesis, Snover proved that any binary $(m,256,δ)$ code is equivalent to the Nordstrom-Robinson code or the punctured Nordstrom-Robinson code for $(m,δ)=(16,6)$ or $(15,5)$ respectively. We prove that these codes are also characterised as \emph{completely regular} binary codes with $(m,δ)=(16,6)$ or $(15,5)$, and moreover, that they are \emph{completely transitive}. Also, it is known that completely transitive codes are necessarily completely regular, but whether the converse holds has up to now been an open question. We answer this by proving that certain completely regular codes are not completely transitive, namely, the (Punctured) Preparata codes other than the (Punctured) Nordstrom-Robinson code.
Nordstrom's theory of gravity, which describes gravity by a scalar field in flat spacetime, is observationally ruled out. It is however the only theory of gravity with General Relativity to obey the strong equivalence principle. I show in this paper that this remarkable property is true beyond post-newtonian level and can be related to the existence of a 'Nordstrom-Katz' superpotential.
The behavior of a charged massive Dirac field on a Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS black hole background is investigated. The essential self-adjointness of the Dirac Hamiltonian is studied. Then, an analysis of the discharge problem is carried out in analogy with the standard Reissner-Nordstrom black hole case.
The present work discusses motion of neutral and charged particles in Reissner - Nordstrom spacetime. The constant energy paths are derived in a variational principle framework using the Jacobi metric which is parameterized by conserved particle energy. Of particular interest is the case of particle charge and Reissner-Nordstrom black hole charge being of same sign since this leads to a clash of opposing forces - gravitational (attractive) and Coulomb (repulsive). Our paper aims to compliment the recent works of Pugliese, Quevedo and Ruffini [1,2]. The energy dependent Gaussian curvature (induced by Jacobi metric), plays an important role in classifying the trajectories.
The superradiant stability of five and six-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes under charged massive scalar perturbation is studied. In each case, it is analytically proved that the effective potential experienced by the scalar perturbation has only one maximum outside the black hole horizon and no potential well exists for the superradiance modes. So the five and six-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black holes are superradiantly stable. In the proof, we develop a new method which is based on the Descartes' rule of signs for the polynomial equations. Our results generalize the previous study that four-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstrom black hole is superradiantly stable under charged massive scalar perturbation.
An effort has been made, in order to derive without "hard" mathematics, the forms of Schwarzschild, Lense-Thirring, Reissner-Nordstrom, Kerr and Kerr-Newman metrics.
