The shifted Jack Littlewood-Richardson coefficients $g^λ_{μν}(α)$, first studied by Alexandersson-Féray, are Laurent polynomials in the Jack parameter $α$ attached to triples of partitions, which generalize the classical Jack Littlewood-Richardson coefficients investigated by Stanley, et al. In a previous work of the author's, it was conjectured that the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for two triples, in which one of the partitions differ by a single box move, are congruent modulo the $α$-hook length of the pivot box for that move. In this note we prove that conjecture. We also investigate the extension of that conjecture to shifted Macdonald functions, which remains open pending two properies of Lassalle's shift map in that case.
We consider Jack measures on partitions with homogeneous defining specializations. For each of the six distinct classes of measures obtained this way we prove a global law of large numbers with an explicit limiting particle density. We also demonstrate for one of these classes how to obtain a global central limit theorem, global and edge large deviation principles, and edge universality using the results of the paper. Our argument is based on explicitly evaluating Jack symmetric functions at homogeneous specializations, relating the Jack measures to the discrete $β$-ensembles from (Publications math{\' e}matiques de l'IH{\' E}S 125, 1-78, 2017) and using the discrete loop equations to substantially reduce computations.
This article is devoted to the study of Jack connection coefficients, a generalization of the connection coefficients of the classical commutative subalgebras of the group algebra of the symmetric group closely related to the theory of Jack symmetric functions. First introduced by Goulden and Jackson (1996) these numbers indexed by three partitions of a given integer $n$ and the Jack parameter $α$ are defined as the coefficients in the power sum expansion of the Cauchy sum for Jack symmetric functions. While very little is known about them, examples of computations for small values of $n$ tend to show that the nice properties of the special cases $α=1$ (connection coefficients of the class algebra) and $α= 2$ (connection coefficients of the double coset algebra) extend to general $α$. Goulden and Jackson conjectured that Jack connection coefficients are polynomials in $β= α-1$ with non negative integer coefficients given by some statistics on matchings on a set of $2n$ elements, the so called Matchings-Jack conjecture. In this paper we look at the case when two of the integer partitions are equal to the single part $(n)$ and use a framework by Lasalle (2008) for Jack symmetric func
Introduced by Goulden and Jackson in their 1996 paper, the matchings-Jack conjecture and the hypermap-Jack conjecture (also known as the $b$-conjecture) are two major open questions relating Jack symmetric functions, the representation theory of the symmetric groups and combinatorial maps. They show that the coefficients in the power sum expansion of some Cauchy sum for Jack symmetric functions and in the logarithm of the same sum interpolate respectively between the structure constants of the class algebra and the double coset algebra of the symmetric group and between the numbers of orientable and locally orientable hypermaps. They further provide some evidence that these two families of coefficients indexed by three partitions of a given integer $n$ and the Jack parameter $α$ are polynomials in $β= α-1$ with non negative integer coefficients of combinatorial significance. This paper is devoted to the case when one of the three partitions is equal to $(n)$. We exhibit some polynomial properties of both families of coefficients and prove a variation of the hypermap-Jack conjecture and the matchings-Jack conjecture involving labelled hypermaps and matchings in some important cases.
We give an explicit formula for the power-sum expansion of Jack polynomials. We deduce it from a more general formula, which we provide here, that interprets Jack characters in terms of bipartite maps. We prove Lassalle's conjecture from 2008 on integrality and positivity of Jack characters in Stanley's coordinates and give a new formula for Jack polynomials using creation operators.
We use a new method to study the Laplace-Beltrami type operator on the Fock space of symmetric functions, and as an example of our explicit computation we show that the Jack symmetric functions are the only family of eigenvectors of the differential operator. As applications of this explicit method we find a combinatorial formula for Jack symmetric functions and the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients in the Jack case. As further applications, we obtain a new determinantal formula for Jack symmetric functions. We also obtained a generalized raising operator formula for Jack symmetric functions, and a formula for the explicit action of Virasoro operators. Special cases of our formulas imply Mimachi-Yamada's result on Jack symmetric functions of rectangular shapes, as well as the explicit formula for Jack functions of two rows or two columns.
We introduce Jack (unitary) characters and prove two kinds of formulas that are suitable for their asymptotics, as the lengths of the signatures that parametrize them go to infinity. The first kind includes several integral representations for Jack characters of one variable. The second identity we prove is the Pieri integral formula for Jack characters which, in a sense, is dual to the well known Pieri rule for Jack polynomials. The Pieri integral formula can also be seen as a functional equation for irreducible spherical functions of virtual Gelfand pairs. As an application of our formulas, we study the asymptotics of Jack characters as the corresponding signatures grow to infinity in the sense of Vershik-Kerov. We prove the existence of a small $δ> 0$ such that the Jack characters of $m$ variables have a uniform limit on the $δ$-neighborhood of the $m$-dimensional torus. Our result specializes to a theorem of Okounkov and Olshanski.
In this paper, we discuss the relations between the Jack polynomials, $\hbar$-dependent KP hierarchy and affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. We find that $α=\hbar^2$ and $h_1=\hbar, \ h_2=-\hbar^{-1}$, where $α$ is the parameter in Jack polynomials, and $h_1,\ h_2$ are the parameters in affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. Then the vertex operators which are in Jack polynomials are the same with that in $\hbar$-KP hierarchy, and the Jack polynomials can be used to describe the tau functions of the $\hbar$-KP hierarchy.
We give an iterative method to realize general Jack functions from Jack functions of rectangular shapes. We first show some cases of Stanley's conjecture on positivity of the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients, and then use this method to give a new realization of Jack functions. We also show in general that vectors of products of Jack vertex operators form a basis of symmetric functions. In particular this gives a new proof of linear independence for the rectangular and marked rectangular Jack vertex operators. Thirdly a generalized Frobenius formula for Jack functions was given and was used to give new evaluation of Dyson integrals and even powers of Vandermonde determinant.
This article is devoted to the computation of Jack connection coefficients, a generalization of the connection coefficients of two classical commutative subalgebras of the group algebra of the symmetric group: the class algebra and the double coset algebra. The connection coefficients of these two algebraic structures are of significant interest in the study of Schur and zonal polynomials as well as the irreducible characters of the symmetric group and the zonal spherical functions. Furthermore they play an important role in combinatorics as they give the number of factorizations of a permutation into a product of permutations with given cyclic properties. Usually studied separately, these two families of coefficients share strong similar properties. First (partially) introduced by Goulden and Jackson in 1996, Jack connection coefficients provide a natural unified approach closely related to the theory of Jack polynomials, a family of bases in the ring of symmetric functions indexed by a parameter αthat generalizes both Schur (case α= 1) and zonal polynomials (case α= 2). Jack connection coefficients are also directly linked to Jack characters, a general view of the characters of t
Jack characters are a generalization of the characters of the symmetric groups; a generalization that is related to Jack symmetric functions. We investigate the structure coefficients for Jack characters; they are a generalization of the connection coefficients for the symmetric groups. More specifically, we study the cumulants which measure the discrepancy between these structure coefficients and the simplistic structure coefficients related to the disjoint product. We show that Jack characters satisfy approximate factorization property: their cumulants are of very small degree and the character related to a given partition is approximately equal to the product of the characters related to its parts. This result will play a key role in the proof of Gaussianity of fluctuations for a class of random Young diagrams related to the Jack polynomials.
The one parameter family of Jack(alpha) measures on partitions is an important discrete analog of Dyson's beta ensembles of random matrix theory. Except for special values of alpha=1/2,1,2 which have group theoretic interpretations, the Jack(alpha) measure has been difficult if not intractable to analyze. This paper proves a central limit theorem (with an error term) for Jack(alpha) measure which works for arbitrary values of alpha. For alpha=1 we recover a known central limit theorem on the distribution of character ratios of random representations of the symmetric group on transpositions. The case alpha=2 gives a new central limit theorem for random spherical functions of a Gelfand pair. The proof uses Stein's method and has interesting ingredients: an intruiging construction of an exchangeable pair, properties of Jack polynomials, and work of Hanlon relating Jack polynomials to the Metropolis algorithm.
For each integer partition $λ\vdash n$ we give a simple combinatorial expression for the sum of the Jack character $θ^λ_α$ over the integer partitions of $n$ with no singleton parts. For $α= 1,2$ this gives closed forms for the eigenvalues of the permutation and perfect matching derangement graphs, resolving an open question in algebraic graph theory. A byproduct of the latter is a simple combinatorial formula for the immanants of the matrix $J-I$ where $J$ is the all-ones matrix, which might be of independent interest. Our proofs center around a Jack analogue of a hook product related to Cayley's $Ω$--process in classical invariant theory, which we call the principal lower hook product.
In the theory of symmetric Jack polynomials the coefficients in the expansion of the $p$th elementary symmetric function $e_p(z)$ times a Jack polynomial expressed as a series in Jack polynomials are known explicitly. Here analogues of this result for the non-symmetric Jack polynomials $E_η(z)$ are explored. Necessary conditions for non-zero coefficients in the expansion of $e_p(z) E_η(z)$ as a series in non-symmetric Jack polynomials are given. A known expansion formula for $z_i E_η(z)$ is rederived by an induction procedure, and this expansion is used to deduce the corresponding result for the expansion of $\prod_{j=1, j e i}^N z_j E_η(z)$, and consequently the expansion of $e_{N-1}(z) E_η(z)$. In the general $p$ case the coefficients for special terms in the expansion are presented.
The super-Jack polynomials, introduced by Kerov, Okounkov and Olshanski, are polynomials in $n+m$ variables, which reduce to the Jack polynomials when $n=0$ or $m=0$ and provide joint eigenfunctions of the quantum integrals of the trigonometric deformed Calogero-Moser-Sutherland system. We prove that the super-Jack polynomials are orthogonal with respect to a bilinear form of the form $(p,q)\mapsto (L_pq)(0)$, with $L_p$ quantum integrals of the rational deformed Calogero-Moser-Sutherland system. In addition, we provide a new proof of the Lassalle-Nekrasov correspondence between trigonometric and rational harmonic deformed Calogero-Moser-Sutherland systems and infer orthogonality of super-Hermite polynomials, which provide joint eigenfunctions of the latter system.
Superpolynomials consist of commuting and anti-commuting variables. By considering the anti-commuting variables as a module of the symmetric group the theory of vector-valued nonsymmetric Jack polynomials can be specialized to superpolynomials. The theory significantly differs from the supersymmetric Jack polynomials introduced and studied in several papers by Desrosiers, Mathieu and Lapointe (Nucl. Phys. B606, 2001). The vector-valued Jack polynomials arise in standard modules of the rational Cherednik algebra and were originated by Griffeth (T.A.M.S. 362, 2010) for the family G(n,p,N) of complex reflection groups. In the present situation there is an orthogonal basis of anti-commuting polynomials which corresponds to hook tableaux arising in Young's representations of the symmetric group. The basis is then used to construct nonsymmetric Jack polynomials by specializing the machinery set up in a paper by Luque and the author (SIGMA 7,2011). There is an inner product for which these polynomials form an orthogonal basis, and the squared norms are explicitly found. Supersymmetric polynomials are obtained as linear combinations of the nonsymmetric Jack polynomials contained in a submo
In the intersection of the theories of nonsymmetric Jack polynomials in $N$ variables and representations of the symmetric groups $\mathcal{S}_{N}$ one finds the singular polynomials. For certain values of the parameter $κ$ there are Jack polynomials which span an irreducible $\mathcal{S}_{N}$-module and are annihilated by the Dunkl operators. The $\mathcal{S}_{N}$-module is labeled by a partition of $N$, called the isotype of the polynomials. In this paper the Jack polynomials are of the vector-valued type, that is, elements of the tensor product of the scalar polynomials with the span of reverse standard Young tableaux of the shape of a fixed partition of $N$. In particular this partition is of shape $\left( m,m,\ldots,m\right) $ with $2k$ components and the constructed singular polynomials are of isotype $\left( mk,mk\right) $ for the parameter $κ=$ $1/\left( m+2\right) $. The paper contains the necessary background on nonsymmetric Jack polynomials and representation theory and explains the role of Jucys-Murphy elements in the construction. The main ingredient is the proof of uniqueness of certain spectral vectors, namely, the list of eigenvalues of the Jack polynomials for the
We study Jack characters, which are the coefficients of the power-sum expansion of Jack symmetric functions with a suitable normalization. These quantities have been introduced by Lassalle who formulated some challenging conjectures about them. We conjecture existence of a weight on non-oriented maps (i.e., graphs drawn on non-oriented surfaces) which allows to express any given Jack character as a weighted sum of some simple functions indexed by maps. We provide a candidate for this weight which gives a positive answer to our conjecture in some, but unfortunately not all, cases. In particular, it gives a positive answer for Jack characters specialized on Young diagrams of rectangular shape. This candidate weight attempts to measure, in a sense, the non-orientability of a given map.
The Jack polynomials P_λ^{(α)} at α=-(k+1)/(r-1) indexed by certain (k,r,N)-admissible partitions are known to span an ideal I^{(k,r)}_N of the space of symmetric functions in N variables. The ideal I^{(k,r)}_N is invariant under the action of certain differential operators which include half the Virasoro algebra. Moreover, the Jack polynomials in I^{(k,r)}_N admit clusters of size at most k: they vanish when k+1 of their variables are identified, and they do not vanish when only k of them are identified. We generalize most of these properties to superspace using orthogonal eigenfunctions of the supersymmetric extension of the trigonometric Calogero-Moser-Sutherland model known as Jack superpolynomials. In particular, we show that the Jack superpolynomials P_Λ^{(α)} at α=-(k+1)/(r-1) indexed by certain (k,r,N)-admissible superpartitions span an ideal {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N of the space of symmetric polynomials in N commuting variables and N anticommuting variables. We prove that the ideal {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N is stable with respect to the action of the negative-half of the super-Virasoro algebra. In addition, we show that the Jack superpolynomials in {\mathcal I}^{(k,r)}_N vanish
The Calogero-Sutherland model occurs in a large number of physical contexts, either directly or via its eigenfunctions, the Jack polynomials. The supersymmetric counterpart of this model, although much less ubiquitous, has an equally rich structure. In particular, its eigenfunctions, the Jack superpolynomials, appear to share the very same remarkable combinatorial and structural properties as their non-supersymmetric version. These super-functions are parametrized by superpartitions with fixed bosonic and fermionic degrees. Now, a truly amazing feature pops out when the fermionic degree is sufficiently large: the Jack superpolynomials stabilize and factorize. Their stability is with respect to their expansion in terms of an elementary basis where, in the stable sector, the expansion coefficients become independent of the fermionic degree. Their factorization is seen when the fermionic variables are stripped off in a suitable way which results in a product of two ordinary Jack polynomials (somewhat modified by plethystic transformations), dubbed the double Jack polynomials. Here, in addition to spelling out these results, which were first obtained in the context of Macdonal superpol
