Based on (2712.4+-14.3)*10^{6} psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{0} pi^{-} and Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{-} pi^{0} are investigated jointly via the process psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c. Under the assumption of isospin symmetry, the two decay modes are treated as fully correlated, and we report the first measurement of their absolute branching fractions. The results are B(Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{0} pi^{-})=(61.4+-4.5+-4.6)% and B(Xi(1530)^{-} to Xi^{-} pi^{0}) =(29.7+-2.2+-2.2)%. The combined branching fraction of the two decays is B(Xi(1530)^{-} to (Xi pi)^{-})=(91.1+-6.7+-6.8)%, with uncertainties accounting for the correlations between the two modes. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical, while the second are systematic. Additionally, we update the branching fraction of the decay psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c. The updated measurement is B(psi(3686) to anti-Xi^{+} Xi(1530)^{-} + c.c.)=(8.67+-0.52+-0.58+-0.57)*10^{-6}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic related to event selection and the fit model, and the third is associated with the interference effect.
The journal structure in the China Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations Database (CSTPCD) is analysed from three perspectives: the database level, the specialty level and the institutional level (i.e., university journals versus journals issued by the Chinese Academy of Sciences). The results are compared with those for (Chinese) journals included in the Science Citation Index. The frequency of journal-journal citation relations in the CSTPCD is an order of magnitude lower than in the SCI. Chinese journals, especially high-quality journals, prefer to cite international journals rather than domestic ones. However, Chinese journals do not get an equivalent reception from their international counterparts. The international visibility of Chinese journals is low, but varies among fields of science. Journals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) have a better reception in the international scientific community than university journals.
Rankings of scholarly journals based on citation data are often met with skepticism by the scientific community. Part of the skepticism is due to disparity between the common perception of journals' prestige and their ranking based on citation counts. A more serious concern is the inappropriate use of journal rankings to evaluate the scientific influence of authors. This paper focuses on analysis of the table of cross-citations among a selection of Statistics journals. Data are collected from the Web of Science database published by Thomson Reuters. Our results suggest that modelling the exchange of citations between journals is useful to highlight the most prestigious journals, but also that journal citation data are characterized by considerable heterogeneity, which needs to be properly summarized. Inferential conclusions require care in order to avoid potential over-interpretation of insignificant differences between journal ratings. Comparison with published ratings of institutions from the UK's Research Assessment Exercise shows strong correlation at aggregate level between assessed research quality and journal citation `export scores' within the discipline of Statistics.
The runaway electron (RE) - induced damage on boron nitride (BN) tiles mounted on the inner bumpers of the WEST tokamak is modeled employing available empirical input and experimental constraints, concerning the post-mortem documentation of the damaged material topology and infra-red camera observations of the long-time decay of the surface temperature. A newly developed work-flow for the modeling of brittle failure due to RE impacts, recently validated against a controlled DIII-D experiment, is employed. Monte Carlo simulations of RE transport into BN provide volumetric heat source maps for finite-element simulations of the linear thermoelastic material response, while the brittle failure onset is predicted on the basis of the Rankine criterion. The physics of thermal stress driven failure and explosion are well captured by this model, which exhibits high sensitivity to RE impact parameters. Despite the accidental nature of the damage events, the workflow predicts failure in accordance with observations for realistic loading specifications expected in WEST disruptions.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease transmitted through the respiratory system. China is one of the countries with a high burden of TB. Since 2004, an average of more than 800,000 cases of active TB have been reported each year in China. Analyzing the case data from 2004-2018, we find significant differences in TB incidence by age group. Therefore, the effect of age heterogeneous structure on TB transmission needs further study. We develop a model of TB to explore the role of age heterogeneity as a factor in TB transmission. The model is fitted numerically using the nonlinear least squares method to obtain the key parameters in the model, and the basic reproduction number Rv 0.8017 is calculated and the sensitivity anal-ysis of Rv to the parameters is given. The simulation results show that reducing the number of new infections in the elderly population and increasing the recovery rate of elderly patients with the disease could significantly reduce the transmission of tuberculosis. Furthermore the feasibility of achieving the goals of the WHO End TB Strategy in China is assessed, and we obtain that with existing TB control measures it will take another 30 years for China to
This study applies the newly developed STRIPE (Simulated Transport of RF Impurity Production and Emission) framework to interpret tungsten (W) erosion at RF antenna structures in the WEST tokamak. STRIPE integrates SolEdge3x for edge plasma backgrounds, COMSOL for 3D RF sheath potentials, RustBCA for sputtering yields, and GITR for impurity transport and ion energy-angle distributions. In contrast to prior work by Kumar et al. 2025 Nucl. Fusion 65, 076039, which focused on framework validation for WEST ICRH discharge 57877, the present study provides a spatially resolved analysis of gross W erosion at both Q2 antenna limiters under ohmic and ICRH conditions. Using 2D SolEdge3x profiles in COMSOL, STRIPE captures rectified sheath potentials exceeding 300 V, leading to strong upper-limiter localization. Both poloidal and toroidal asymmetries are observed and attributed to RF sheath effects, with modeled erosion patterns deviating from experiment - highlighting sensitivity to sheath geometry and plasma resolution. High-charge-state oxygen ions (O6+-O8+) dominate erosion, while D+ contributes negligibly. A plasma composition of 1 percent oxygen and 98 percent deuterium is assumed. STRI
Tungsten peaking is predicted in the core of a WEST plasma with total-f gyrokinetic simulations, including both collisional and turbulent transport. This prediction is validated with a synthetic diagnostic of the bolometry. Although nitrogen impurities are shown to reduce the neoclassical peaking of tungsten on-axis, the overall tungsten peaking increases when nitrogen impurities are present, as they reduce the turbulence screening off-axis. This finding is important for the plasma current ramp-up phase of ITER, where light impurities seeding will be desirable to achieve low temperatures at the plasma-facing components and reduce tungsten sputtering. It provides further argument for applying early ECRH heating to maintain margins on the core power balance. The neoclassical peaking factor is cross-verified between XGC and FACIT. The heat flux at separatrix and the heat load width are modeled by XGC and compared to WEST data.
The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) collaboration has completed the construction of the 20,000-ton liquid scintillator detector and the associated muon veto detector system. To meet the physics objectives, the materials used in the detector must exhibit low radioactive contamination. The single-event rate in the fiducial volume (R $<$ 17.2 m) of the scintillator is required to be approximately 7 Hz for energies above 0.7 MeV, resulting in an accidental coincidence background of about 1 event per day for reactor neutrino physics analyses. Since the beginning of the construction phase, we have screened the natural radioactivity content of thousands of materials, to select those that meet the design background budget. The radioactive impurity concentrations of the materials ultimately used in the JUNO detector are summarized in this paper. The construction of the entire detector and the subsequent filling of the liquid scintillator were completed in August 2025. From the initial data, the total count rate of natural radioactivity within the detector's fiducial volume has met the requirements and is sufficient to support the reactor antineutrino analysis.
This paper presents an energy resolution study of the JUNO experiment, incorporating the latest knowledge acquired during the detector construction phase. The determination of neutrino mass ordering in JUNO requires an exceptional energy resolution better than 3\% at 1~MeV. To achieve this ambitious goal, significant efforts have been undertaken in the design and production of the key components of the JUNO detector. Various factors affecting the detection of inverse beta decay signals have an impact on the energy resolution, extending beyond the statistical fluctuations of the detected number of photons, such as the properties of the liquid scintillator, performance of photomultiplier tubes, and the energy reconstruction algorithm. To account for these effects, a full JUNO simulation and reconstruction approach is employed. This enables the modeling of all relevant effects and the evaluation of associated inputs to accurately estimate the energy resolution. The results of study reveal an energy resolution of 2.95\% at 1~MeV. Furthermore, this study assesses the contribution of major effects to the overall energy resolution budget. This analysis serves as a reference for interpreti
Offshore wind power is an important part of the new power system, due to the complex and changing situation at ocean, its normal operation and maintenance cannot be done without information such as images, therefore, it is especially important to transmit the correct image in the process of information transmission. In this paper, we propose a new encryption algorithm for offshore wind power based on two-dimensional lagged complex logistic mapping (2D-LCLM) and Zhou Yi Eight Trigrams. Firstly, the initial value of the 2D-LCLM is constructed by the Sha-256 to associate the 2D-LCLM with the plaintext. Secondly, a new encryption rule is proposed from the Zhou Yi Eight Trigrams to obfuscate the pixel values and generate the round key. Then, 2D-LCLM is combined with the Zigzag to form an S-box. Finally, the simulation experiment of the algorithm is accomplished. The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm can resistant common attacks and has prefect encryption performance.
Neutrino oscillations, a quantum effect manifesting at macroscopic scales, are governed by lepton flavor mixing angles and neutrino mass-squared differences that are fundamental parameters of particle physics, representing phenomena beyond the Standard Model. Precision measurements of these parameters are essential for testing the completeness of the three-flavor framework, determining the mass ordering of neutrinos, and probing possible new physics. The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a 20 kton liquid-scintillator detector located 52.5 km from multiple reactor cores, designed to resolve the interference pattern of reactor neutrinos with sub-percent precision. Here we report, using the first 59.1 days of data collected since detector completion in August 2025, the first simultaneous high-precision determination of two neutrino oscillation parameters, $\sin^2 θ_{12} = 0.3092\,\pm\,0.0087$ and $Δm^2_{21} = (7.50\,\pm\,0.12)\times10^{-5}\;{\rm eV}^2$ for the normal mass ordering scenario, improving the precision by a factor of 1.6 relative to the combination of all previous measurements. These results advance the basic understanding of neutrinos, validate the detec
Publication patterns of 79 forest scientists awarded major international forestry prizes during 1990-2010 were compared with the journal classification and ranking promoted as part of the 'Excellence in Research for Australia' (ERA) by the Australian Research Council. The data revealed that these scientists exhibited an elite publication performance during the decade before and two decades following their first major award. An analysis of their 1703 articles in 431 journals revealed substantial differences between the journal choices of these elite scientists and the ERA classification and ranking of journals. Implications from these findings are that additional cross-classifications should be added for many journals, and there should be an adjustment to the ranking of several journals relevant to the ERA Field of Research classified as 0705 Forestry Sciences.
The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project consists of delivering two largest radio telescope arrays being built by the SKA Observatory (SKAO), which is an intergovernmental organization bringing together nations from around the world with China being one of the major member countries. The computing resources needed to process, distribute, curate and use the vast amount of data that will be generated by the SKA telescopes are too large for the SKAO to manage on its own. To address this challenge, the SKAO is working with the international community to create a shared, distributed data, computing and networking capability called the SKA Regional Centre Alliance. In this model, the SKAO will be supported by a global network of SKA Regional Centres (SRCs) distributed around the world in its member countries to build an end-to-end science data system that will provide astronomers with high-quality science products. SRCs undertake deep processing, scientific analysis, and long-term storage of the SKA data, as well as user support. China has been actively participating in and promoting the construction of SRCs. This paper introduces the international cooperation and ongoing prototyping of
Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3 % at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. (NNVT) and 5,000 of dynode PMTs from Hamamatsu Photonics K. K.(HPK).
The production of strange pentaquark states (e.g. Theta baryons and Xi^-- states) in hadronic interactions within a Gribov-Regge approach is explored. In this approach the Theta^+(1540) and the Xi Pentaquark are produced by disintegration of remnants formed by the exchange of pomerons between the two protons. We predict the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions as well as the 4 pi multiplicity of the Theta^+, Xi^--, Xi^-, Xi^0 and Xi^+ for sqrt{s} = 17 GeV (SPS) and 200 GeV (RHIC). For both energies more than 10^{-3} Theta^+ and more than 10^{-5} Xi per pp event should be observed by the present experiments.
Ultra-high-energy (UHE), exceeding 100 TeV (10^12 electronvolts), γ-rays manifests extreme particle acceleration in astrophysical sources. Recent observations by γ-ray telescopes, particularly by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), have revealed a few tens of UHE sources, indicating numerous Galactic sources capable of accelerating particles to PeV (10^15 electronvolts) energies. However, discerning the dominant acceleration mechanisms (leptonic versus hadronic), the relative contributions of specific source classes, and the role of particle transport in shaping their observed emission are central goals of modern UHE astrophysics. Here we report the discovery of a giant UHE γ-ray emitter at -17.5° off the Galactic plane - a region where UHE γ-ray sources are rarely found. The emitter exhibits a distinctive asymmetric shape, resembling a giant "Peanut" spanning 0.45° \times 4.6°, indicative of anisotropic particle distribution over a large area. A highly aged millisecond pulsar (MSP) J0218+4232 is the sole candidate accelerator positionally coincident with the Peanut region. Its association with UHE γ-rays extending to 0.7 PeV, if confirmed, would provide the fi
A measurement of the CKM angle $γ$ is performed by applying a novel, unbinned, model-independent approach to datasets of electron-positron collisions collected by the BESIII experiment and proton-proton collisions by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 8 fb$^{-1}$ and 9 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. The $C\!P$-violating phase $γ$ is determined from ${B^{\pm}\rightarrow D(\rightarrow K_{\rm S}^{0} h^{\prime+}h^{\prime-}) h^{\pm}}$ decays in LHCb data, where $h^{(\prime)}$ is either a pion or kaon, while the corresponding strong-phase parameters are measured using doubly tagged ${D\rightarrow K_{\rm S/L}^0 h^{\prime+} h^{\prime-}}$ decays in the quantum-correlated $D\overline{D}$ system present in BESIII data. A joint fit to both datasets, which allows for a simultaneous determination of the associated $C\!P$-violating observables and strong-phase parameters, yields ${γ= (71.3\pm 5.0)^{\circ}}$. The result is the most precise to date and consistent with previous measurements and world averages.
Over 25,600 3-inch photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) have been instrumented for the central detector of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory. Each PMT is equipped with a high-voltage divider and a frontend cable with waterproof sealing. Groups of sixteen PMTs are connected to the underwater frontend readout electronics via specialized multi-channel waterproof connectors. This paper outlines the design and mass production processes for the high-voltage divider, the cable and connector, as well as the waterproof potting of the PMT bases. The results of the acceptance tests of all the integrated PMTs are also presented.
The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) started physics data taking on 26 August 2025. JUNO consists of a 20-kton liquid scintillator central detector, surrounded by a 35 kton water pool serving as a Cherenkov veto, and almost 1000 m$^2$ of plastic scintillator veto on top. The detector is located in a shallow underground laboratory with an overburden of 1800 m.w.e. This paper presents the performance results of the detector, extensively studied during the commissioning of the water phase, the subsequent liquid scintillator filling phase, and the first physics runs. The liquid scintillator achieved an attenuation length of 20.6 m at 430 nm, while the high coverage PMT system and scintillator together yielded about 1785 photoelectrons per MeV of energy deposit at the detector centre, measured using the 2.223 MeV $γ$ from neutron captures on hydrogen with an Am-C calibration source. The reconstructed energy resolution is 3.4% for two 0.511 MeV $γ$ at the detector centre and 2.9% for the 0.93 MeV quenched Po-214 alpha decays from natural radioactive sources. The energy nonlinearity is calibrated to better than 1%. Intrinsic contaminations of U-238 and Th-232 in the liquid
A measurement of the CKM angle $γ$ and related strong-phase parameters is performed using a novel, model-independent approach in ${B^{\pm}\rightarrow D(\rightarrow K^{0}_{\rm S} h^{\prime+}h^{\prime-}) h^{\pm}}$ decays, where $h^{(\prime)} \equiv π, K$. The analysis uses a joint data sample of electron-positron collisions collected by the BESIII experiment at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider II during 2010--2011 and 2021--2022, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8 fb$^{-1}$, and proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during 2011--2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. The two datasets are analyzed simultaneously by applying per-event weights based on the amplitude variation over the $D$-decay phase space to enhance the sensitivity to $C\!P$-violating observables. The CKM angle $γ$ is determined to be $γ= (71.3\pm 5.0)^{\circ}$, which constitutes the most precise single measurement to date.
