High-throughput analysis method for the comprehensive assessment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, bisphenols, organophosphate esters, phthalates and personal care product additives in indoor dust.

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) widely exist in indoor environments and warrant close scrutiny due to their potentially adverse health impacts. However, comprehensive evaluation of their single and combined health effects is hampered by the lack of high-throughput detection methods. Therefore, we developed a rapid UHPLC-MS/MS method for simultaneous quantification of 41 EDCs across 5 categories in just 10 min. This streamlined protocol includes a simple ethyl acetate extraction of only 50 mg dust samples, followed by nitrogen-assisted drying and reconstitution in 90% acetonitrile, ensuring minimal processing time while maintaining robustness. All 41 EDCs exhibited good linearity (R2 > 0.99) and recovery rates ranging from 70.22% to 129.86%. The method achieved LODs (limits of detection) of 0.0001-0.4747 ng/mL and LOQs (limits of quantification) of 0.0002-1.5823 ng/mL, demonstrating high sensitivity. Method validation and real dust sample analysis confirmed the reliability of this approach in assessing human exposure of indoor EDCs. This study established an efficient, high-throughput analytical strategy, providing a novel tool for future research on the health risks posed by complex EDCs mixtures in indoor environments.
